olympics, part 2

Padraig Harrington supported the idea of having golf in the Olympics, as did Davis Love III. Harrington thought it could be a 5th major, while Davis thought the amateurs should play in it. Anyway, you heard the idea here first.

UPDATE: Ron Sirak of Golf World has just joined the debate in favor of including golf at the Olympics, while Tom Watson and Nick Faldo are against it.

Uhh, I think I've heard it several other places first, including the Olympics itself.

Mr. Mulligan, you don't actually think that you are the first person to propose golf as an olympic event, do you mate? In fact, golf was an olympic event and was last played in 1904.Serious consideration was made to add golf to the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, but was terminated due to Augusta National's policies toward women and minorities.

I have read many of your posts and you seem to be a person who thinks that they know bloody everything about golf. Quite frankly, you do not. Please do some research before you make such an outlandish claim like "you heard the idea here first." It is simply ridiculously arrogant and I can no longer tolerate the drivel found on this site. Good day.

i stand by my previous postiung that i feel that very few countries outside of the United States, Australia, and a few others (and even those are longshot) would be willing to spend the money necessary to set up a golf course as an olympic vunue. Security for a space the size of a standard golf course would eclipse the security budget as it already stands. And for a city (for example, Beijing...next Olympic venue) to be willing to put over a million dollars preparing a course to be adaquate to contend an Olympic sport there, is unfathomable. Greece is so deep in the hole as it is, I imaging most countries will continue to add low cost, but popular to some, sports like women's wrestling and sabre as they did this year.
