oops, vijay did it again

Vijay won No. 7, the Canadian Open. It wasn't that pretty, though, as Mike Weir lost in a playoff after failing to convert several makeable putts -- the last a 5-footer in the 2nd playoff hole that would have won the tournament.

How was Vijay's win not pretty. He had a great 4th round...making a clutch putt on 18 to get into the playoff. He hit the 18th fairway on both playoff attempts...hitting longer drives than anyone else that day, and outside of a missed putt on 17 that he should have made, he made great birdies on 18 on both attempts. Granted, Weir missed more than enough putts, but I can hardly say Vijay didn't have a pretty win. Weir had an ugly loss due to choking under the pressure, but that doesn't make Vijay's win ugly. I thought it was fun to watch.

Your point is well taken. It wasn't pretty if you were one of the thousands of Canadians pulling for Mike Weir. Having just visited Canada, I felt some of the pull. Vijay played well, but he didn't really "seize" the tournament as much as it Mike let it slip away. Vijay missed short putts on 17 (for par) and then again on 18 (for birdie). It all seemed a bit anticlimactic.
