The PGA Tour has rights to Real Time Scoring
The Supreme Court decided not to hear a case which allows the PGA Tour to hold the rights of real-time scoring at its events.
For a couple law folk like the posters at thegolfblog.com, this is a pretty cool development.

1) i assume you already know this, but regarding this case, it was ruled that the PGA Tour has the right to protect their property and not allow others to have real-time scoring without paying the subscription fee. Companies that wanted to use real-time scoring on their websites through their reporters at the course were fighting to have this right without paying the PGA Tour anything. They lost the case.
2) Knowing this, I guess I don't get why this is a cool development. The PGA Tour has made it clear from the get-go that they consider this their property and that they created the subscription cost to protect their investment property. Perhaps it was expected that the court would rule against the PGA Tour, but it would seem contridictory to say that a company doesn't have the right to protect property that it has identified and claimed as investment property from the beginning. Not being a law man, it would be great if you went into the details of the case preceding it that would give those of us outside of the law profession into some insight as to what occurred.
Jason forgot to mention that along with the PGA Tour's trademark scoring devices and software case, was one of only hundreds of company related cases involving patents and rights to hold certain shared features in patents. The Shot Link scoring software, which was created by IBM in 2004 to PGA of America for the PGAtour.com website usage for weekly tournaments, is one of many types of actual datebase and memory storages for sport related entities. Thus, what Jason said is true, he forgot to mention that it is a huge topic, especially with the riding controversy of proper patent holdings on certain features, which is supposed to be the sole purpose of a patent(an invention that is solely creative and distinct from everything else related in the field it is created to be used in.)
