vijay: sorry, ernie

The round of the Sony tournament was shot by Ernie Els yesterday. The Big Easy shot an 8-under, 62, tying the tournament record. Els went birdie, birdie, eagle on the final 3 holes. But it wasn't enough to hold off Vijay Singh, who birdied the last hole after crushing his drive over 300 yards. I've never seen Vijay swing so hard on his drive before. He even lost his balance. It reminded me of, well, Tiger.

Ernie Els' finish was just amazing. It is good to see Vijay continue to play well even after the off-season. He played well at Kapalua, just had that one hiccup. He doesn't seem to let up or go away. I am a huge Tiger fan, but I believe Vijay will hold the #1 spot for the rest of this season also.

Yeah, that 3-week off-season is a killer. :-)

One thing that was lost in the last two weeks was the play of Goosen. Considering how he played in the second half of last year, he sure hasn't started strong.

Admittedly, he had a bad start at the Sony Open, he made some movement, but then faded, finishing 56th. And at the Mercedes, he finished 13th.
