The Nissan Open begins on Thursday at Riviera Country Club in LA. Mike Weir is 2-time defending champion.
Here’s one amazing tidbit about this tournament (formerly the LA Open). In 1952, the tournament host defied the PGA’s ban on black golfers and invited former heavyweight champion Joe Louis to play. I saw a clip of Joe’s swing — pretty sweet. Bravo to the tournament for its bravery in standing up to the PGA.
