wake up call
Retief Goosen didn't get his wake-up call and missed his 6:40 am tee time in the Pro-am at the Nissan Open. Consequence: Retief's been DQ'd from the entire tournament. Harsh. The tournament should have cut the guy some slack (unless they are hoping to reduce Tiger's competition, so he can draw big ratings on Sunday).
UPDATE: Apparently, Goosen was hosting a Grey Goose party for the media, the night before. That's why he had trouble getting up. Also, the automatic disqualification is a PGA tour rule. OK, so maybe there's no exception. Finally, Tiger insists on always getting the 1st tee time if he has to play a pro-am. Doesn't want to deal too long with the riff-raff.
UPDATE 2: Tiger's in the lead so far at -5. Meanwhile, David Duval is tied for last place, at +5.

I'd like to see Goosen play this weekend as well, but I think the mandatory pro/am attendance is reasonable. After all, the people who play in those pay big bucks to do so and should have the chance to play with some of the biggest names in golf.
It seems a small enough price to pay given the purses that are up for grabs at these events.
One thing to add:
If Tiger finishes fourth or better, he is the new #1 in the world. Not a lot of press on this, maybe because it is the one event he has never won. But without Phil, Singh, Goosen, Els, its almost like winning a Nationwide Tour event for him.
Wouldn't it be great to see the faces on that group of guys who threw $25,000 grand together, were lucky enough to get Goosen as their picked pro, and they show up at the tee, and find out that they got Duval as a replacement. "Awwww...man, now we're gonna have look for his balls in the woods all day."
And how about Goosen's caddie...he got a week's salary for two practice day's work. Nice.
It says that Woody Austin was the alternate, not Duval.
has anyone heard sports ill going to publish that phil mickelson has a gambling addiction an has lost millons. also he has had a child by another woman.
