The PGA: A bit less Bizarro and a big Friday

The PGA leaderboard after the first afternoon rounds looks a bit less Bizarro than it did mid-day on Thursday. At -3, Phil Mickelson is carrying the torch for the big 5, and Power Fade's pick of Stephen Ames is looking good. But seeing Jasper near the top still makes me wonder if the golf universe was a bit off on Thursday.

With 58 players within 4 strokes of the lead, Friday should be an exciting day. It will get off to a quick start, since 12 of the 17 players at -3 or -2 have morning tee times. We should get a good sense of the contenders and the pretenders by lunch time. And when Tiger tees off with his +5 at 1:30pm, he should have a very good sense of the number he will need to get back into contention.

For lots of news about Day 1, check out all the stories assembled here at the official site of the championship.

Interesting story on Parnevik. He felt he was so out of whack, he took off the Summer, even skipped the Open Championship, and rebuit his swing from scratch. Feels now that he back in his groove.
As for Garcia, his score didn't reflect it, but he went from tee to green better than anyone. But as I surmised in a prior comment, his putting was horrible, and gave him the score he has.
