Strong showing for three of LPGA's Big Five

As detailed more fully in this post, I think the golf media and the LPGA should be heavily promoting the players I am starting to call the Big Five of American women's golf: Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbis, Christie Kerr, Morgan Pressell and Michelle Wie. The results from this week's LPGA State Farm Classic reinforce my view.

Though Pat Hurst was able to run away with the victory at the State Farm, the three members of the Big Five in the field all finished very strong. Kerr placed second, Gulbis tied for third, and Pressell tied for fifth. More proof that, even without bikinis, the LPGA's future is very bright.

Douglas, you need to give Pat Hurst even more credit. Last week, she was tied for the lead at Wendy's on the 18th hole until she slice whacked her drive into the woods and double bogeyed.

Several of the media (not me) were waiting like piranha for her on the 18th green to ask her the obvious question: What happened to your drive on 18 that cost you the tournament?

Well, Pat Hurst (who's a mom and has the good sense that most moms have) said something to the effect: Yes, that nasty slice creeps up on her on occasion, but, hey, she's not going to dwell on losing the tournament. It's over.

This week was poetic justice, in a way. Don't dwell on last week, no matter how ugly that slice was into the woods! God bless her!

Agreed, allcarry, that Pat Hurst bounced back terrifically.

And the entire American Solheim team seems to be playing well going in to the event next week.
