Wie gets more press...
Well I too was watching the LPGA Tournament on NBC today, but unfortunately, the coverage stopped at 4pm and the tournament was no where to be found on TV. Maybe I missed where the TV coverage was going, but I could not find it.
Anyways, I am not one who is a big Wie fan, like my fellow golfbloggers Douglas and Mulligan and even more so AllCarry. Personally, I think that she is going to be a huge failure for Nike and Sony and will always have people gunning for her. Also, she does not know how to win, so it might take her 5-10 years before she learns how to win and dominate like Tiger or Annika. Finally, I think that Michelle will slowly burn herself out. She is working too hard, and if she does not reach the pinnacle of her game soon, I question whether she'll be able to continue without losing interest at some point. I think Paula, Annika, and Christie are going to lead the LPGA Tour until Morgan Pressel comes up from the ranks.
My last point that I'd like to make. I am an avid baseball fan and I was sick watching the end of Game 2 of the ALCS. For those of you who did not watch the end of the game, the umpire gave a strike 3 call against AJ Pierzynski, who swung and missed, but the catcher dropped the ball. Most of the players on the Angels believed that the motion of the umpire, including the Angels catcher, who did not tag Pierzynski out. Luckily in golf, you can go back and make things right. Here, Wie broke the rules and she should be disqualified.

Put me down as NOT a member of the Michelle Wie fan club. Strike one was I had a hard time with her accepting invites to a Canadian tour event, then the Nationwide, then the Sony Open after losing in the 3rd round of the Junior Girls AM in 2003. I have also had heated debates on if she should have skipped Womens AM events to play in LPGA events.
My frustration with Wie is I want to see the best of the best fighting it out on the back 9 on Sunday. For the most part I do not root for any one person but lets face it, unlike the PGA and its big 5, the LPGA has a big 1, and once again she reminded the world who that was today. When was the last time Michelle was seriously in contention in an LPGA events? Answer, never. How can you have so many top 5s or even 2nds and not be in contention? Somehow she has managed to do it. Its just really frustrating to get excited to see how she is going to do in the final round of the US Open, tied for the lead and she has a total meltdown. I just do not think she has the competative fire in the belly that the all time greatest players posses.
For selfish reasons, I want to see how good she can be, ON THE COURSE, not as a product endorser. Its clear to me that Team Wie has taken a route to maximize endoresment $s and not golf victories. (Does anyone else see a magnetic Tiger or Michael Jordan personality? I dont) As a result, I think we, the hard core golf fans are the big losers. I really do want to see her do well, I really do want to see her and Annika and Creamer and Kerr fight it out and push each other, I am really getting tired of being let down.
One question... does anybody know where you can find driving stats for LPGA events? The reason I ask is you hear how long Wie hits it but the only stats I can find say otherwise. She averaged 250.9 per drive @ the US Open, which was 36th, 5th amongst AMs. Her longest of the 8 measured drives was 268. The stats for Sony and JDC do not show a drive over 269 yet Wikipedia says she averages 280 and we always hear she can easily hit it 300.
Final Question... how hard is Julie Inkster laughing right about now?
Yeah, that would suck if her game took 10 years to develop so she could "dominate like Tiger or Annika"
I would hate to dominate a professional golf league at age 26.
That would just suck.
What a retard! It's very striking that you prefaced your comment by saying that you are not a "fan" of Wie and then not have any flattering things to say about her.
Idiot, she' just became 16 years old. She can't turn pro until she's 18, and has only limited number of tournaments to participate in for the next 2 years. Annika did squatly until late in her 20s. She already brought more fans to the LPGA than Annika did in her entire career. If you have constructive criticisms, contribute. However, if you don't like Wie for personal reasons, keep them to yourself. Fucking retard.
Andrewdad left nut
I think its obvious by the margin of the series that 1 umpire's call wasn't gonna affect the result of the series.
why are all these people on this COMMENT PAGE if there just going to asult her? i think michelle deserves what she has,its not like she sat around and it was handed to her she worked hard so everyone should back off!
