Paula Creamer and Annika squabble
Things got testy -- and maybe even a little catty -- between Paula Creamer and Annika Sorenstam over where Annika's ball had crossed the plane of the water hazard on the 18th hole. This followed a dispute earlier on the 16th hole in which Annika was able to fix a mark on the green that Paula originally said was a spike mark. So who prevailed? In both cases, Annika did. On the 18th, the rules official sided with Annika; on the 16th, Creamer backed down when Annika called a rules official. My question: If it had been Michelle Wie, and not Annika, who was in question, would the LPGA rules official had pulled out the video tape and then asked Annika to recreate what happened? In this case, the right call was made: Annika was left to stand by her integrity and honor on a call in which there was debatable evidence. If there was a rules violation (I'm not suggesting there was), it's Annika's to live with. I do have to admire, though, the fire of that 19-year-old Paula. More here. Hee-Won Han is leading at -5; Creamer, -4, Annika, -3 with others. Leaderboard.

More here as well, including a little diagram for those who have missed it.
I am calling you out allCarry, right here... you and me. If it was Michelle Wie... That was kind of a dumb question. Recreate it? It was right there, no need to recreate. Tell me how the rules officials in either the Wie or Sorenstam/Creamer instances did not follow the rules for those two distinct situations. In one you have two different opinions with the on course commentator agreeing with Creamer and the scorer and someone from the gallery both saying it hit land, agreeing with Sorenstam. In the other, a decision needs to be made on what happend the previous day. Apples and oranges. They were not handled the same way because they could and should not have been handled the same way.
just read the news about Paula Creamer and Anika at the first round of the ADT Championship at Trump International Thursday, Nov.17, 2005 in West Palm Beach, Fla
Paula Creamer should get over herself, implying that Anika did something dishonest in stating the flight of her tee-shot. If she wants to hang her hat on the flight of the teeshot (her view vs.the best player in the history of the womens game) she will be noted so from here on in. Anika's view was noted she continued to argue. Get over it Paula you have a lot to prove. Play your game and put the lazer beam away.

If it happened to Michelle Wie, and she argued her case like Annika, people would be saying that clearly Paula was right and Michelle's arguing was proof that she was too young to turn pro (not that I think Annika did the wrong thing).
Also, there would be a lot more people watching and pictures taken which would add even more fuel to the debate. The officials would still be arguing about it.
It would all finally get settled on Sunday when a photographer from SI goes to the officials with video from the blimp showing that the ball stayed over the land and Michelle would get a DQ.
Andrewsdad good thoughts but you lost me when you called allcarry out. Is it not still a gentlemans game? They had 2 opinions yesterday and a resolution was achieved. Good thing it went your way.
To add fuel to the fire, Paula Creamer came out publicly this week saying her goal was to be No. 1. Sure, everyone wants to be, but in Paula's case, it's pretty realistic. Having her paired in the final group with Annika surely raised the competitive juices.
Pouty, puffy, strutting Paula needs to grow up. Period. She's on dangerous ground challenging the best woman golfer in the world, on or off the course. Don.
My point was replace Annika with Michelle Wie and the rules officials would have handled it the same exact way. There is no special "its Michelle Wie, lets look at the video tape" rule. The reason yesterdays ruling and the Wie DQ ruling were not handled the same way was because the rules question came up a day later for Wie and they were required to look into it and obviously the ball was no longer there, unlike the Sorenstam/Creamer situation.
Sorenstam is a STONE COLD CHEAT!
She tried the same thing at the Samsung event, did everything to get an illegal drop after being blocked out by the scoreboard but the official would not budge, here she finds a more malleable offical.
STONE COLD CHEAT !
The last comment was pretty uncalled for. You have no proof of cheating.
If a questionable rules violation happened in a forest, and nobody saw it, would Sorenstam and/or Creamer call a penalty on themself?
Sorenstam - Probably not. Sorenstam takes an aggressive interpretation, and tries to bend (but not break) them to her advantage. Witness the line of sight scoreboard incident a few weeks back. This doesn't means she's a cheater or a bad person. She's just more agressive with interpreting the rules, and will take an edge when she can get an edge.
Creamer - Absolutely. She just voluntarily DQed herself a few weeks ago for switching clubs during the overnight interruption between rounds. Nobody would have ever caught her. That showed a ton of character.
Creamer's was a clear violation. We don't even know if Annika committed a violation, so the last point doesn't hold water.
i support creamer for standing up for what she thought should've been the correct call, even if she was wrong, which none of us really know because none of us were there and the TV coverage was very inconclusive. i do however believe that Annika uses her superstar status to intimidate others, even if she was shy at first, she is by no means now. she is out to win and we'll use the rules to her best advantage, without cheating of course.
its the same kind of thing that peyton manning does. do you see any other QB in the league who gets to conference with the officials like he does, or see calls go his way when he complains? he's not cheating, he's doing everything he can to win. much like annika.
i think paula creamer is a force to be reckoned with (ie solheim cup)
paula creamer is a fierce competitor. she was protecting herself and the field. the wie comment is worth noting. her particular situation is more compelling. the lgpa tour handled that very poorly. and i doubt sports illustrated will ever get an interview with wie now! poor judgement by both parties. doesnt it seem like alot of folks(players, media, and the lpga) tour are rooting against michelle? annika and the rest should be watched just as closely. i applaud paula for what she did. take care of it on the course. not the next day! comprede?
