Chad Campbell beats Tiger, 1-up
Tiger missed a 12-footer on the 18th hole to stay in the match against Chad Campbell. Shocking.

Not sure I would call it shocking. An off round, a hot opponent, a few bad breaks at the wrong time, that is match play. I had heard Tiger would have won if it was stroke play.
Tiger wins about 1 in 4 events he enters and if for example you think his odds of beating any one player in a match play round on a given day are 80% then the odds of making it through the 3rd round are right around 50%, actually 51-49.
Tiger is greatness, but Chad got the best him today. I wish I could play as boring as Chad did today.
Yeah, Chad Campbell is most definitely boring.
I hope he doesn't reach the finals.
Oh well. Black armbands at ABC. This probably reduces ratings by 90%. I know I'm going to have a hard time blowing my Sunday to watch David Howell lock horns with Zach Johnson for 36 holes. That's why TV won't allow more than 1 match play event a year.
As to Tiger. He played OK. Sprayed it around a bit off the tee, iron play was a bit off...was putting great... must have singed the lip 7 or 8 times. Chad was solid. So in match play, that's see ya.
I'm not saying Tiger doesn't want to win these tournaments. He wants to win every tournament. Still, his goal mentally is to save his energy ie his most intense focus, for the majors. Even then, he wants to keep something back for Sunday at the majors, if he gets there. One of the things that sets him apart as a sportsman is his ability to manage his energy in this manner. That's why you will see a different Tiger trying to drain a 10 footer on the 18th green on Sunday at Augusta from the Tiger trying to drain a 10 footer at the 18th of La Costa on a Friday afternoon.
I meant "shocking" that Tiger missed a crucial putt on the 18th hole to lose. When's the last time he did that?
i think it was the skins game, he had a similar length, maybe shorter birdie putt to save the skins and didn't make it...obviously much different circumstances, but worth some money none the less....
