Wanted: SOMEONE TO PUSH TIGER

Tomorrow, I expect to see in some publication the headline: Tiger 2 PGA Tour 0. Granted, this headline would not be completely true. But, at the Buick Invitational, Olazabal, Garcia, Lefty, and Nathan Green folded and allowed Tiger to win ugly. (See our coverage here, here, here, here, and here). Basically, Tiger beat Olazabal in a playoff without much problem.

Then today, no one put pressure on Tiger, and he coasted to victory at the Ford Championships at Doral. Granted, I would never have expected Tiger to finish bogey, bogey, but as he said, "A win's a win" in his post round interview. Today, David Toms, Rich Beem, and many, many others bogeyed the last hole, the "Blue Monster." But, Toms' bogey on the last hole gave Tiger a 2-shot lead standing back in the fairway. Tiger then proceeded to hit the ball into a right greenside bunker (all he wanted to do was keep it "inside the grandstands"), and made he bogey and thrust his hands in victory.

All I wanted was to see someone push Tiger. Someone to force Tiger to make birdie on the last hole. Heck a par would have sufficed today. I am a golf fan and I want to see the best players play at the TOP of their game, not just with the game they brought. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed watching the tournament. Villegas will be something special and Toms' run at the end at least had me watching till the end. But, watching Tiger win, especially this way AGAIN, I agree totally with Johnny Miller who was disappointed with the PGA Tour.

Come on guys. If you GUYS ARE GOOD! Let's see someone press Tiger down the stretch!!!

Could be another scary season like 2000. Personally, I like watching Woods win by 5 or 8 strokes.I remember in the 90's flipping channels and a Bulls game would be on. I felt obligated to stop and watch Jordan play for awhile. It is a priviledge to be able to wathc an athlete of that caliber performing in his prime. I understand why people want to see a more competitive golf tournament. In the big picture, though, the argument with Tiger is over. Even if a Sergio Garcia ends up stealing a couple of majors from him, he's only competing with history now. He's going to spend the rest of his career trying to separate himself from Jones, Hogan, Nelson, Snead, Watson and Nicklaus.

I don't usually go around quoting Brian Hewitt, but he did say something on Sunday that I can't help but agree with completely...basically, he said we won't really know just how good Tiger is until we see him at the Ponte Vedra for the Player's.
If it's not a rainout, I say there's no backing into a win at Ponte Vedra..it's just too hard and even Tiger can't back into a win there with anything less than his A game. If his even posts a top-10 there, look out Majors...

Also...you just gotta love how ugly Villegas' swing is. Powerful and frekish, yes; pretty, no.

I could kick Tiger's butt. He choked big-time on the last two holes!

I think it's wrong that Tiger got all of those exemptions in '96 and didn't even have to go to Q school like I did. He gets all that money and all he's done is win ten majors? What's up with that!

In fact, I challenge Tiger to a match here and now!! These are the rules: no more than a 5800 yard course so I can take advantage of my 225 yard rips, Tiger can't bring anything longer than a 7 iron, he has to putt with his sand wedge, and I get to yell during his backswing.
