The Wie report

Time Magazine's Jeff Chu interviewed Michelle Wie recently. Here are a few classic Michelle responses:

Time: Who are your role models outside golf?

Michelle: A couple of weeks ago, I met the Secretary of State, Condoleeza Rice, and I thought she was really amazing. I look up to her because she's a really strong woman. I can't believe I played nine holes with her. She was kind of a beginner, but she was pretty athletic. She actually hit her driver really well. She liked hitting her driver. Anyway, I don't really remember everything. It was such a blur, and I was like, "Oh my God, it's the Secretary of State." They put me in charge of driving her around. I was like, If I crash, the Secretary of State goes down with me.

Time: Rush Limbaugh reportedly said something about you recently [calling you a "triumph of marketing"].

Michelle: Huh? Who's that?

Time: You don't know who Rush Limbaugh is?

Michelle: Uh oh.

Time: He's on the radio.

Michelle: I don't listen to the radio much.

The Golf Blog: We would have added, He's the guy who was addicted massively to pain killers, until he was ratted out by his own housekeeper (see here). He made a similar type of remark (see here) about the media hyping of QB Donovan McNabb, who is African American.

More from the interview....

TIME: It was reported that during your round Condoleeza Rice picked up her ball from a hazard and cleaned it off. Did you say anything to her about the rules of golf?

Michelle: Are you Crazy! She's like the Prime minister or something right? Anyway I'm not too up to date on the Rules of Golf so it's not my place to tell her what she can and can't do.

TIME: Did you say you were driving her around? Are you old enough to Drive Michelle?

Michelle: I think so... well... maybe not... I don't know... these are really hard questions. you know.

TIME: There has been a lot written about your rivalry with Morgan Pressel. Are the stories and rumors just that or is there any validity? Is there a big Wie-Pressel rivalry Brewing.

Michele: Morgan, are you kidding? Like, we are almost best friends. it's not her fault she can't hit the ball as far as me, or chip as good as me or putt as good as me. She's nice and all but you can't fault someone for being stuck in mediocrity. Just the other day I saw her on the coarse and told her that I thought her new Polo outfit was a bit last season and that her 15 min of fame were all but over, and like get out of my face looser. So no there is nothing brewing or anything.

TIME: People have compared your rise to fame as like a young Tiger Woods.

Michele: Tiger? Who is that is he on the Radio?

Side Note: Let a Fart in line at Walmart that smelt like Hot Peanut butter on a leather Couch, and then gave the little girl behind me a dirty look and changed lines. Tried to call Natalie today to ask where I put the batteries in the skycaddie, but I think her number is unlisted. Friday I Discovered calling off work to watch an I Love the 80's marathon was so worth it.

"triumph of marketing"
How was that comment by Limbaugh, whom I never listen to, not 100% spot on? You can add up the endoresment money from all of the winners this year and combined they do not come anywhere near the 10 million that Wie is making. Are you trying to say she has earned that money from performance on the course? Because either you think she earned it on the course or else Limbaugh was right and its marketing.

As far as Limbaugh's comment about McNabb, I worked for an NFL team from 1992 until 2000 and the NFL is fairly open about promoting African Americans throughout organizations. The NFL requires each team has certain numbers of African Americans in certain positions and requires teams to interview a certain number of African Americans for certain open positions or else they fine the team. Now did McNabb get too much credit for the Eagles success? I don't know, I have never followed the Eagles, but knowing what I know, seeing what I have seen, I would be surprised if the NFL did not play up his contribution to the teams success in order to counter the old stereotype that blacks were not smart enought to play QB.

Finally... We would have added, He's the guy who was addicted massively to pain killers, until he was ratted out by his own housekeeper
And that is why you write for a blog and not for Time.

Why is it that one day there will be 5 or 6 comments then only 2 the next? Are the being censored? If so, what's the point of having this forum for exchange?
