The Wie report
Michelle won her local qualifier to move on to the sectionals to qualify for the (men's) U.S. Open. More here.
Meanwhile, Michelle got an exemption from the USGA to play in the U.S. Women's Open. "Michelle's case was more cut-and-dried, when you looked at the numbers,'' USGA rep Marcia Luigs said. "If she had been on the LPGA Tour, she would have been exempt. Even though she is a professional and has won enough money to have an exemption, it's not on the LPGA money list.''
Michelle also received an invite to play in the men's European Masters on Sept. 7. More here.

Ok, I will give Michelle Wie credit for winning her local US Open qualifier. That is certainly an achievement...for a 16-year old girl. She's going to face more competition at the sectional qualifier though. Whether she makes the US Open doesn't really matter to me because I'm not as enthralled with her playing men's events as some others appear to be. As for the invite to the European Tour event, is it a big deal? Not really. Look, she's very talented but is it really news anymore to watch her play 2 rounds in a men's tournament and then miss the cut? Yeas, she made the cut...in Korea. The competition is somewhat more talented in the US and Europe, so she's not going to be making any cuts anytime soon.
You should also change the name of this blog from The Golf Blog to just MichelleWie.com (assuming it's not already taken). Seriously, is there any other news? How about the Byron Nelson or the Nationwide Tour? How about other women players (those who actually play in more than 6 LPGA Tour events). I'm not saying that Wie should be ignored, but your coverage of her every move is borderline ridiculous. And don't give me the line that Tiger's not playing so there's no golf news from the men. That's simply not true. I watched a great European Tour event over the weekend (Paul Casey, Darren Clarke, etc.). There is more to golf than whether Michelle Wie can beat a group of local hacks in a US open local qualifier (I exaggerate of course).
'...playing men's events...'
The US Open may be thought of by many as a men's event and may have been traditionally seen that way, however in terms of the rules established by the USGA, it actually isn't a men's even, it is their one truly open championship.
The ironic thing is, we usually celebrate talented people that have big dreams, but in the case of MW many people don't like her because her dreams challenge gender roles.
I agree with Young Tom Morris...there's a LOT going on in golfland and is seems like all we get is Michelle Wie reports. I'd be more than happy to post topic, just email me and let me know how to do it.
A few topics items of import that haven't been covered here in the past weeks:
Hootie retiring from Augusta National
Jim Furyk takes the #5 spot in the world rankings from Els
Morgan Pressel - laggin a bit in the back in the pack
Immelman? Is gonna happen this week? (I think he's gonna do something special at the Memorial)
Bobby Wadkins coming back into form? What does his brother think?
Will Ben Crenshaw pop he Champions tour cherry? (I say no..)
Of course...we could also just talk about golf...who likes what courses? I'd love to see people from different areas of the coutry comment on slow play, course conditions, costs, tee time accessibility, etc....
Just some ideas...let me know if you want some help at jumpjumpholydiver@yahoo.com
I love Young Tom Morris's comments, but he's completely wrong on this one. Today, I'm going to be Old Tom Morris and teach that boy a lesson. Sorry I myself haven't been posting lately, but the number of posts exclusively about Wie on The Golf Blog in the past 10 days or so has been only 5 posts -- out of 24 posts. Wait a second, do you mean there were 19 other posts not even mentioned by YTM?
To be honest, I don't think The Golf Blog is doing enough coverage compared to The Golf Channel. (And sorry again I haven't been posting myself.) If you go on The Golf Channel's site today, the Cover story is about Michelle Wie and 3 of the top 6 stories on the side are about Michelle Wie. That's way more coverage currently devoted to Michelle Wie than The Golf Blog.
I agree with the last comment. I want more Wie coverage on this site. There's not enough. I have to go to other sites to find out what's going on about the phenom.
Thanks for all these comments. As you can see, we won't be able to please everyone 100%. We receive a bunch of email asking for more of this and less of that. Very often those requests conflict. We try to compromise.
Not to cover Michelle Wie would be silly, since she is probably the biggest draw today. For instance, posts about her on The Golf Blog tend to repeatedly draw commenters, while many of our other posts don't draw any comments.
That said, we don't cover Michelle exclusively. Thanks to Imgonnapickup for pointing out that The Golf Blog had 19 posts last week on other topics. Yes, The Golf Channel had more coverage of Michelle Wie on its site. Sorry, wiefan, we're doing our best...
I agree with the wie fan. This site doesn't have nearly as much coverage as Wie as The Golf Channel. You guys are slacking off here. I'm not one to criticize, but you should be really devoting more coverage to Wie if you want to compete with The Golf Channel.
I just nominated the best singer-golfer in the history of the world to the World Golf Hall of Fame

I assure you I am not a hit and run type of person, I love the sport of golf and I enjoy reading about the subject of golf. I also enjoy reviewing golf products and spreading the word about the ones I truly believe in. If that is "pimping" my tape so be it, now let me put my money where my mouth is.
I will give you a free roll of StukOnTapes Gorilla golf grip tape. That’s right I will give it to you free. You be the judge. Go to http://stukontapes.theblogaddict.com it’s just that simple.
