LPGA McDonald's Championship: whither Annika?
I am so excited for this week and next. The women will play their second major of the year, while the men play the U.S. Open at Winged Foot next week (with Tiger's return).
Could this week be Lorena Ochoa's week? What about Karrie Webb? The person I'm most interested in seeing what happens is someone else. No, not Michelle Wie, or Natalie Gulbis. It's Annika Sorenstam, who's going after her fourth consecutive McDonald's but who has not been playing up to her high standards this year.

I too am most interested in how Annika does and am willing to bet that we are in the minority. Obviously she is not having the type of year we have come to expect. The thing that has stood out most to me is how she has not been able to finish a tournament when starting the final round in the last group. I believe that has happened twice this year.
Other things I will be watching for, can Ochoa, the player who has had the best year to date, win her first major? Also of course is can Wie finally break through for a win and how will the US Open qualifying earlier in the week affect her play? I could make an argument that the Open qualifying could have either helped or hurt. Winning the regional has to be a confidence boost but playing a tough 36 on a Monday the week of a major, can not see how that is a good thing unless she had qualified. I had heard on the Golf Channel that her Dad told a reporter that "she balled" all night Monday. That is not a good sign. Now if Wie does not do well the weekend, which I define as having a realistic shot at winning at sometime during the back 9 on Sunday, I have to question her golf priorities. Realistically her chance of qualifying were fairly slim, I would say 10 – 20%, qualifying and making the cut, well less than 5%, winning the Open, almost non existent. Making the cut at the LPGA, almost assured, winning… ???? who knows with her. So it seems to me that by playing the Open qualifier, probably lessens her chances of winning a major. That strikes me as prioritizing publicity over potential results.
Yup I agree with you I'm actually very interested to watch how Annika reacts to her so called slump... but she already 7 shots off the lead... but you never know , its early rounds yet.
