Ryder Cup 2006 update

Last time around, the U.S. team got shellacked by the Euros. The team consisted of the following:

Tiger Woods
Phil Mickelson
Davis Love III
Jim Furyk
Kenny Perry
David Toms
Chad Campbell
Chris DiMarco
Fred Funk
Chris Riley
Jay Haas
Stewart Cink

If the Ryder Cup were held today, here are the Top 10 the U.S. would field:

WOODS, Tiger
MICKELSON, Phil
FURYK, Jim
CAMPBELL, Chad
TOMS, David
JOHNSON, Zach
WETTERICH, Brett
TAYLOR, Vaughn
GLOVER, Lucas
LOVE III, Davis

And here's who Europe would field:

David HOWELL
José Maria OLAZÁBAL
Henrik STENSON
Colin MONTGOMERIE
Luke DONALD
Sergio GARCIA
Paul CASEY
Carl PETTERSSON
Paul BROADHURST
Padraig HARRINGTON

I'd have to give a big edge to the Euros playing in Ireland with this line-up.

The current US Ryder Cup team would get destroyed by the current European team. I hate to say it, but it wouldn't even be close.

The short- and long-term future does not look bright for the US team

You're right, it doesn't look good for the Americans. Half the guys with experience (much of it bad) and half the guys with virtually no experience.

i guess the criteria for making this team, is the "good ol' boy" system of "smooze and protect your own", rather than "level of current play", over "experience"(pffft) and "who's your buddy, who's your pal?". i can't feel too much compassion for some of these swelled heads having to chum (sic) the hole, to have a chance @ impressing a man who should feel shame for even thinking about making himself a playing captain, after making only 1 cut this year.

(sidebar: what's it gonna take to remove the annoying and insulting use of ads that have no realistic sense of honor or ethics, that they didn't pay for, to get on the air?)

i stand corrected; lehman couldn't have done much worse than the sad sacks that couldn't hold a pint, let alone the proper mashie.

and yes; please get rid of the bad commercials, suck-up (and i use the word loosely) commentators, and pin placement/basement drainholes.

heehee!! anon; thanks for (such as it is) validation of my riding tandem with the random vacillation of what's "gnorw htiw flog"....these people need to live in the real world.
do y'all almost get a feeling a lot of this stuff (not just golf) is staged?

and, yes; i've never seen as much smarmation and bag-licking (take that with the proverbial grain o' salt), even @ augusta, as i did @ that particular venue.
shame on the perpetrators (miller, stay home, puh-lease?). gotta wonder why they weren't hacking along with the rest, as much as they (seem) to "know" about the game....
