Is Tiger the greatest athlete ever?

One ESPN writer thinks so:

"Woods has escaped golf's gravitational pull and moved into a planetary system that includes your one-namers (Pele, Babe, Jack), your initialers (MJ), your nicknamers (The Great One, The Greatest), your oldies (Jim Thorpe, Willie Mays, Joe Louis), your Olympians (Mark Spitz, Carl Lewis), your netters (Martina Navratilova, Pete Sampras), your others (Lance Armstrong). I know I'm forgetting someone, but it doesn't matter. Woods is better."

Woods is one of the greatest if not the greatest athelete ever, golf is probabably the hardest sport around to compete profossionally. With the way Tiger can play he makes the sport look so easy and leaves his competitors looking a little stupid whith their games.

Woods is most likely the greatest INDIVIDUAL athlete ever, considering everything from his record to his work ethic. Although, no one said that of Jack Nicklaus, whose records Tiger is chasing. And what about Jesse Owens, or hundreds of other non-team-oriented athletes. Some of those iron-man triathlon dudes are awesome, too. And I saw this jazz/break dancer on this TV competition the other night.....

An interesting comment on this subject appeared in The Guaridan newspaper yesterday here in the UK.

Extract: "I was lucky enough to spend Sunday afternoon following the world No1 around Medinah and can report that he certainly looks the part. Great athletes all have stage presence and he is a Mount Rushmore of a man. Poor Luke Donald, his playing partner for the day, was dwarfed beside him on the tee. The Englishman is an exceptional golfer but looked like a 12-handicapper when measured against Woods."
