Kimberly Kim, 14, youngest to win U.S. Women's Amateur
Her parents must've been thinking of this moment when they named their daughter Kimberly, with the last name Kim. Kimberly Kim is an easy name to remember, and remember it you will.
Kimberly, 14 years old and from Hawaii, just became the youngest player to win the U.S. Women's Amateur. She needed to sink a 5-footer on the final hole to defeat 26 year old Katharina Schallenberg of Germany. "I was shaking so much," Kim said. "I don't even know where I aimed or anything. I just, like, hit it. It was like, `Whatever, just hit the ball."'
Kids, today. They know how to play.

This is one the best stories of the summer. Kimberly Kim (14 years old) beat a 15 year old (Lindy Duncan)on Saturday in a terrific match, then in Sunday's 36 hole showdown for the title she comes back from 5 down after 15 holes!
Katharina Schallenberg nearly twice Kim's age(26)was only 1 down after 34 holes, and Schallenbenberg birdied the last two holes.....only to loose 1 down! Truly amazing golf by both players with the tournament hanging in the balance.
Kim rattled Schallenberg in the early round winning three consecutive holes in a row with 280 yard drives and gutsy putting, and Schallenberg couldn't pull her self back together until she was 2 down and seemingly out of it. Kim dropped a 20'er on Schallenberg on the 35th hole from a fairway bunker which seemed enough to win the match, but Schallenberg dropped a 15 footer of her own to go to the 36th hole. There, both made birdies (Schallenberg from off the green) to halve the hole!!
It's amazing to me that anyone could think that this is not EXACTLY what a young 14 year old golfer needs in her career to develop.....yet that's exactly what Micelle Wie did. Of course the problem is that Michelle Wie had a choice....Kimberly Kim doesn't.
It was fun to watch the womens am tournament! The personality and talent of Kimberly Kim will only get better. Kudos to her parents and to Kimberly for doing the steps necessary to growing up and maturing as a young teen and golfer. We will see much more of Kimberly and I feel she will be a winner in life be it golf or whatever she decides to pursue.
This story should get more press. I love the kids attitude and the way she smashes her driver. She's got a great short game too!
