Ryder Cup 2006: Glad I'm Not Captain Lehman

So here are your top 10 in Ryder Cup standings after the PGA.

Tiger Woods
Phil Mickelson
Jim Furyk
Chad Campbell
David Toms
Chris DiMarco
Vaughn Taylor
J.J. Henry
Zach Johnson
Brett Wetterich

Cink shot 69 today playing with Corey Pavin and according to all of those at CBS, Cink will be a captain's pick. So who do you go with if you were Captain Tom? DL III had a couple good rounds, but struggled the last 2 days. Lumpy did not finish worth a lick. Glover struggled plus he would be another rookie. Anyways, I'm glad that I'm not Tom.

But, having to take a stand and changing my thoughts, I would now pick Cink and DL III.

I can't speak about Cink, but I think Lehman is making a HUGE error if he decides to bring in DL3. The man had a chance to make a strong point about his game under pressure, and he sure did --the wrong way.

Please stop the cycle of rolling out the usual suspects to another limping, emotionless defeat.

Although my guy also failed to make a point about his game, I'm still stumping for Jerry Kelly. Bring some life into the team, other than DiMarco.

Kelly would be an excellent choice. Playing well (although the PGA didn't help his cause too much), wants it bad, and combative in match play.

Please, please...no DL3!!!

The argument for DL III is:

Four rookies.

DL has so much experience...

Experience losing isn't the type we need.

I would like to see DL3 as a sentimental choice. I think his play over the weekend at the PGA should raise some concern, but his entire career has been like that. He's been a much better player in the Ryder Cup than in the majors.

I disagree, though, about Jerry Kelly. From a playing standpoint, he's just too erratic with his driver to take a chance on with a captain's pick. Also, he may have heart but how do you explain his taking time off the past few weeks when he needed the points to qualify for the team? I think that should weigh against him. He doesn't care enough about the Ryder Cup to try and qualify on points? What is that about? I think he killed his chances with that decision.

Regardless, and I've been saying this for almost 2 months, it doesn't matter who Tom Lehman picks. The US team is nowhere close to Europe, from top to bottom. The top US players may be better, but Europe is going to roll out a stronger team 1 through 12 than the US. Package that with Europe's recent success and the Americans' proven ability to lose, it isn't looking good for Team USA at The K Club next month. They might prove me wrong, but I wouldn't bet on it.
