Tiger is great, but...
I am sooooooo tired of seeing his playing partners melt during the final round of a major. Sergio shot an ugly 73 at The Open last month and was out of it after about 5 holes. Luke Donald is limping along today at +2 today. And CBS just put up the stat that Tiger's 11 playing partners in final major pairings have averaged rounds of 72.82.
I have heard some claim that Tiger's accomplishments are superior to Jack's because Tiger is playing against better and deeper fields. But I don't think Jack's rivals so consistently turned to jelly on Sundays at the majors.

I think its great watching Sergio and Phil play like me, a 14 handicap, it keeps the legacy of Greg Norman alive...
Man, this PGA major got boring early, I mowed the lawn, trimmed the bushes and went to hit balls at a local course. They were watching some two wheeler competition and women's volleyball. No one at the bar cared about this LOCAL major - where is all the cash for those purses coming from? I got back just in time to watch MORE putting - bring back the Gong show!!!
Tiger is a God.
Unbelievable that people piss and moan about the competition.
OT -- who was the last player, other than Tiger, who won two majors in a row before Phil?
Nick Price in '94 (BO & PGA)?
Nothing wrong with the fields. Tiger is the Babe Ruth of our time. Did anybody watch the post game press conference. Someone asked if he thinks his swing is a good as during the 1999-2000 run. He said yes, but now I have 7 years more playing experience. That means knowing the courses better, having more kinds of shots in his bag and so on. I hate to think what kind of streak he might go on.
I would prefer more exciting golf tournaments. Where's Bob May when you need him.
The year's not quite over, and you never know.. this year may pretty close to 2000 by the end..
So far: 12 tourns, 5 wins, a 2nd, 3rd - 2 majors.. (forget the US open.. even Tiger is human)
2000: 20 tourns, 9 wins, 4 2nd, 3rd - 3 majors
What's left this year? WGC-Bridgestone, Deutsche Bank, Tour Championship, WGC-AmEX.. all possibilities
2000 GIR 75.2 (1), Scoring 67.8 (1) Birdies 4.92 (1), Putting 1.717 (1), All-around (1), Money (1)
To date: 2006 GIR 73.5 (1), Scoring 68.8 (1), Birdies 4.7 (1), Putting 1.77 (65), All-around (3), Money (1)
The year is definetly not over - and the Tiger Slam repeat for 06-07 is now a possibility..
Sit back and just enjoy.
Douglas,
Those pros do it to themselves, Tiger has gotten into most of their heads. I think the only guy that is mentally Tiger-proof is Chris DiMarco, and he has nowhere the talent to dominate.
To compete against Tiger, someone needs to stand up, and win or lose play aggressively. I think it's meek play in light of looking like an idiot next to Tiger that gets most pros to melt, and then look like idiots.
When you see Tiger's 6 amateur titles behind his pro accomplishments. I would shoot 73 too.
I am now going to buy that shirt, so I can dominate.
Respect domination.
Obvious.
Is anybody elase fed up with Steve William's (Tiger's caddy) taking his caddy bib off BEFORE Tiger putts out on the last hole. I think he does this because A. he thinks he is too important to wear a uniform and B. because he has a contract with Valvoline and has a logo on his shirt. It might be that he is too vain to want pictures with his man while he is wearing a bib.
I also have it on good authority that he swore at a female official who asked him to put it on on the practice ground during the U.S. Open.
Grow up Steve, the game is bigger than you.
Wow, what an insightful rant about Steve Williams! This is a hugely important issue that the TOUR needs to address immediately (NOT).
Are you some sort of Phil-nerd that's just really angry today?
Is this guy ever going to choke in a big spot. Hogan did. Snead did. Arnie did. I don't think Nicklaus ever did, but 18 second place finishes in majors? I don't see Tiger finishing second so many times.
19 second-place finishes for Jack -- even more than his wins.
Tiger -- 2 seconds.
Tiger tied the course record. Tiger tied his own record for lowest score in a major. And his record for fewest bogeys. And had the second-best round of anyone yesterday with Sunday pin placements, despite not having to go for the flag.
Yet you complain that other golfers aren't shooting record-setting golf?
Many of these comments are ridiculous...or your just too young to remember how golf was before Tiger.
Nearly every major before Tiger was filled with talented players that would all melt on the final day, and the winner would be the player the melted the least. Man, was that exciting!
Enjoy the man while he's here, cause when he's not we are all going to be getting lots of Winged Foot type tournaments!
I was thinking the same thing about Stevie. I'm a Tiger fan, and I don't know how the tour lets him keep getting away with taking the bib off all the time.
No, it's not the biggest problem in the world, but rules are rules, and caddies are supposed to abide by them. His taking the bib off so early all the time smacks of arrogance.
