Tiger on top, will he ever lose again?

Three straight victories, including 2 majors, ain't bad. But Tiger's now positioning himself for his 4th win in a row. He's at -10, two strokes clear of Adam Scott, at the Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio. Leaderboard.

Will Tiger ever lose again?

UPDATE: Tiger just completely airmailed the clubhouse on the 9th hole, and the ball ended up in the parking lot. Someone apparently picked up the ball. But he got a free drop because it's not considered out of bounds. Where's Sergio Garcia to complain?

here we go with the tiger hype. the media is caught up in the hype, the fans, the media, the television crews and the cooks at the clubhouses are helping out too.
all great news if you are tiger woods but when tiger, himself, gets on the band wagon and accepts these riduculous rulings and the more than generous lies, he is cheating himself and disgracing the game of golf.

i would love to see tiger do the right thing and chip out rather than taking those generous lies and putting the ball on the green. come on tiger! do the right thing and bring ethics back to the game. you are a great player who doesn't need any more help from outside entities.

Wow...another angry Phil-nerd on a "Tiger gets all the breaks" rant. Waaaaaa... Where should he have "chipped out" from? The clubhouse roof?

My only regret was that he didn't make the putt.

Being USGA certified in tournament rulings, I definitely thik the ruling was proper and the only one available given there was no OB. The ball was found and it was deemed to be the same as a grandstand. No harm no foul.

Jim Bob sounds right, but it's very odd that the clubhouse and parking lot are not out of bounds. That seems ridiculous.

Why was the ball not deemed lost after 10 minutes? Any other golfer would have accepted the mistake and gone back to where it was played from at cost of shot and distance. Why was he allowed to search and arse around for 35 minutes before being given a free drop. This was a disgraceful decision and I am sure he knows it. This is not the game of golf as it should be played. It is a sad day for golf and the end of sportsmanship in the game. Can you imagine Jack Nicklaus behaving like this? He would not have waited for a dodgy decision but would have called the penalty on himself as would 99.9% of pro golfers. Disgraceful!

That last comment is simply stupid. The protocol is to wait for a rules official. That took a minimum of 10 minutes. The fact that a security guard and a truck driver saw a kid pick the ball up and put it in his pocket probably was a factor in the ball not being deemed lost. Not sure whether you actually play golf or not but the fact is no stakes or white painted line to designate out of bounds, the ball's in bounds. It was picked up by an outside agency (kid) and the drop area was determined (84 yards from the green) in part due to the grandstands being deemed a temporary immovable obstruction. Now you're educated.

As for WWJD (What Would Jack Do), yes, I could imagine Jack or any other PGA Tour professional asking for a rules official and abiding by their decision. Great fantasy though.

One point about Tiger from last week's PGA.

Incredibly, he holds the outright all-time scoring record in all four majors. The only slight blemish is that he is not the sole record holder of the PGA Championship record, he shares it with Bob May at -18. On Sunday, he is standing on the 17th tee at -19 with a 5 shot lead. As he mentioned in his post round interview, he purposefully overclubbed on the tee to make sure he didn't go in the water, almost guaranteeing himself bogey on the hole, but avoiding putting the victory in slight jeapordy by hitting into the water.

If I had been Tiger, as good as I was playing, I would have gone for the green, an easy par and the solo scoring record. It shows whole totally focussed he is on beating Jack's career major victory record.

Where's the out of bounds at Winged Foot? If it's not marked out then it isn't out. Or not. I really don't know.

The correct ruling was made here, despite the appearances --the parking area was not defined as "out-of-bounds". Also, apparently some law enforcement officer told the rules official about some caterer picking the ball up within the 5-minute lost-ball window, so there was no penality there.

I have no problem with players using rules for their advantage. I do have a problem with fans acting for specific players when other players may not be given that same consideration. See my comment during the PGA posting below, and attached derison of said point of mine.

every golfer knows in his heart that the ball on the roof fiasco was not in the spirit of the great game, barmy OB rule or not. if you can't find your ball in 5 minutes replay the shot and take your punishment. tiger's only punishment, in his mind, is not winning every tournament he enters. he's doing to golf what schumacher has done to formula 1. stewart cink, did you want to add something?
