Michelle Wie, dead last again?
Things just went from bad to worse. After 11 holes, Michelle Wie is +8 for the day and +13 for the tourney, and now again in dead last among 134 golfers at the 84 Lumber Classic. To be fair, though, some PGA pros who shot poorly yesterday, simply withdrew. Someone needs to send out an SOS for Michelle. This can't be good for her development.

Ok. Enough is enough would you all say. It’s becoming a bit of a joke amongst the tour players when she’s in the field. You take a guy like Thompson who is the kind of player that can enter a field and throw down a 64 along with a few good rounds and make a good cheque. At this point at least, Wie doesn’t have he game to do that. Which means that she is grabbing a spot from someone who could have that magical week…cuz that’s all it takes out there, one good week. Seriously, Jeff Gove may have been the only guy to have the sac, or lack of brains to go on record and say what he did a few months back, but trust me, all the tour players are thinking, saying it…just not going to go on record with it!
This may be the best thing that could have happened to Michelle Wie. Maybe someone in her camp will wake up and finally see what's going on.
I'm beyond the point of even caring. Michelle Wie is about as relevant at this point as Anna Kournikova. At least Anna has her calendar.
I wonder what the excuse from Team Wie will be this week? Caddie? Exhaustion? School work? New pair of shoes? That one was my personal favorite. I'll bet she broke in yet another pair of shoes this week. Yeah, that's got to be the reason.
Say goodbye to Michelle Wie. Despite the efforts of her parents, she'll soon be included with the likes of Ty Tryon, Brian Bosworth, and Tony Mandarich...all hype and no substance.
The only place I ever heard the "new shoes" excuse was a commentor on this blog. It's not anywhere else out there, that's for sure, and I'm sure it would have been if she had really said it.
In a way, I think this is a good wake up call for Michelle and everyone who's managing her (her parents, her agent, her sponsors). She needs to continue developing her game at a slower pace...this certainly wasn't the way to do it.
Though this probably has done major damage to her confidence, I hope Michelle remembers her strong finishes on the LPGA tour this year and builds on that. She did make a noticeable improvement from last season to this season on the LPGA, despite the steps back she's taken competing with men.
Due to the immense expectations, I feel like her failures have overshadowed her substantial accomplishments. That's too bad. She still has room to improve but I'm still impressed by what she's done this year. I hope she does what she needs to do to get better.
young tom morris, that's a pretty big overstatement. There's no way that Wie turns into Ty Tryon. Michelle has the LPGA to fall back on. As the last commenter noted, her season on the LPGA was quite respectable. Ty Tryon has to compete against the big boys. Michelle doesn't have to, if she doesn't want to.
It is unfortunate that Michelle's season would be remembered by her dead-last finishes.
Michelle, in my opinion, has the best performance in the LPGA. She finished in the top 5 in all but 1 of her LPGA events.
Sadly, nobody would even care about those.
I'm an avid Michelle Wie follower. But the two recent finishes make me not want to care about her future events.
I hope they change their strategy next season.
The Wie sympathizers are really something. "I hope everyone remembers how well she played on the LPGA tour."
You mean like getting thumped by Britany Lincicome at the HSBC match play? You mean how she fell out of contention at every tournament that she could have won?
Amazing! If Tiger Woods played like that you guys would be crucifying him! Fact is, this season was a FAILURE! She didn't win a single tournament AGAIN!
Top 5 finishes are great, if she wins one or two, but when she chokes every time it's close....sorry, but this is golf where 2nd is first looser!
She probably would do much better if she used Gorilla Grip tape from StukOnTapes, www.stukontapes.com simply the best grip tape out there with its superior gripping power and conformability. My theory is that possibly her grips are slipping.
Translation of the Tapeguy comment:
MICHELLE, GET A GRIP !!!!!!!!!!!!
"This can't be good for her development."
I disagree. Playing a PGA setup, 7,500 yard course against the best men in the world is a great learning experience. When she plays in the LPGA events, they will seem like pitch and putts.
Sure, her experience proves that she's not yet good enough against the men, but it better prepares her for the LPGA.
I will hold off any judgements about Wie until she is a full-time professional golfer with at least a full-year of experience under her belt. The same goes for Morgan Pressel, who still hasn't done jack so far as a full-fledged LPGA pro.
Prepare her better for the LPGA? Chip and putt courses? Do you even PLAY golf?
Golf is golf. You and the ball. You're not playing against men and women, you're playing your best. Wie's best ain't good enough... long course, short course, doesn't matter. Short hitters win on long courses and vice versa. When you're hot you're hot. When your not you're Wie.
I think she'll probably make a cut. No miracle there. If she could break 70, she'd do it. Her problem is that there is probably too much or too little between her ears. And furthermore, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Why is finishing last or not making the cut news? It blows my mind that the press is thinking that this is some kind of accomplishment. The press is ruining golf when an inordinate attention is focused on failure rather than winning. How about some news on Annika or on Lorena instead?
I disagree with the guy who says that playing against the men helps her development. On the contrary, I think it reinforces that she doesn't belong there or worse that her best is simply not good enough. She is saying that she's playing really well despite coming in last. If so, I'd really hate to see her "C" game.
Why aren't all these posts making it to the public site?
According to Robert Allenby, "I don't think it's going to do her any harm [to miss the cut]," he said.
"It can only make her better, watching guys who play a different style of golf to women. She can learn from certain ways we do stuff."
