Michelle Wie shoots +7, almost tied for last

Hey, I don't want to seem mean to a 16-year-old girl, but I wanted to report that Michelle Wie shot +7 today in Europe. She did beat 5 male golfers, to her credit, but still is tied for 146th place. Wie bogeyed just about every par 3 on the course. Where's Leadbetter when you need him?

When is this going to end? Maybe it will take finishing last for her to realize that she's not going to make it on the men's tour. I don't know what more evidence she (or her crazy parents) need to arrive at that conclusion. It's really ridiculous and almost funny, if it weren't so sad that she is letting her parents and her marketing people use her this way. They have her convinced that she's got the game to play with the men. Hello Michelle!...are you there?...time to wake up and face the facts.

To the previous poster, please leave your racism out of this, it's not welcome here.

That said, the problem is though everyone is fascinated by Michelle Wie they will quickly tire of the hype if she doesn't perform. The best thing for her would be to play in some women's events, improve, and THEN compete on the men's tour. She risks burning through all her sponsorships and fans' patience by raising the hype level and then not matching it. Tiger has captured the world's attention by not only living up to the hype, but going past it.

the racist post was removed, the racist comment was not from youngtommorris, of course!

OK, these are all fair comments questioning Wie's attempts on the men's tour.

She does not seem ready. And these repeated attempts now don't seem like the best strategy for her to do well in a men's event one day.

I'm not going to make excuses for her strategy. You would think that someone like David Leadbetter might provide her with good advice.

My jaw almost dropped because I thought I was being accused of some racist comment, so I checked my previous comment to see whether I had mistakenly said something I didn't mean. You had me confused for a few seconds.

Look, I think Michelle Wie is going to be a tremendous talent, but she's going to do that on the LPGA Tour, not missing cuts or barely making a cut or two playing against the men. The sooner she realizes that, the better off she will be.

In the past month since she, or more accurately, her "people" fired her caddie, I've begun to question whether Michelle is running the show or whether her parents and marketing team/sponsors are trying to make her into something she's not. The idea of playing against men was novel, but it's played itself out. And her comments about possibly making the Ryder Cup team one day are downright laughable until you start wondering whether someone is driving this young woman to be something more than she actually is. Michelle, please find the right advisors (like Tiger has done) and concentrate on being the best player you can be. Whether that means finding a swing guru or whatever, please do so. But enough of trying to compete against the men.

I believe that Wie could make the cut in a men's event. But it looks like it's not going to happen soon.

I'm not a psychologist but missing cuts in a tournament on and on doesn't help your game mentally. I would think it lowers her drive since she's getting used to missing cuts.

Michelle Wie is a tremendous talent. I'm just wondering why no one is telling her to leave the men's events for now and focus on women's events. She could even go and play more Asian Tour events if she pleases. But right now, European PGA and US PGA should not be in her schedule.

Anybody knows who caddied for her?

I have no problem with her playing the event and she is free to say anything she wants about wanting to play in the Ryder Cup although I thought she looked silly saying what she did with her lack of wins and fairly poor match play record but let be clear about one thing, winning is not what the Wie camp is all about. It should be clear by now that the main goal is publicity to generate endorsement dollars and they are doing an exceptional job at that. Exhibit #1, we are posting about someone who is currently in 146th place in a European Tour event.

I do have a problem with the headline on ESPN.com, which in part reads "could miss Euro Masters cut". Ya think?

Wie's new caddie... #10 in 3 years.

I knew she had gone through a number of caddies but I would have guessed 5.

WIE'S NEW BAGMAN

Michelle Wie has reached into the PGA Tour ranks for her next caddie, giving Andrew Lano a tryout as she spends the next two weeks barnstorming against the men.

Lano has spent most of the past 20 years looping for Kenny Perry. He'll work this week's European Tour event in Switzerland before returning stateside for the 84 Lumber Classic.

Lano becomes Wie's 10th caddie since the Hawaiian teen began playing pro events three years ago. He would do well to make sure he's spot-on with the rules.

Predecessor Greg Johnston was pinned with the blame for two infractions during his stint, including a penalty at the Women's British Open that preceded his dismissal.

Asked then if she ought to brush up on the rules herself, Wie replied: ``Well, they're not actually great reading material.''

I love the comment by her playing partner that she beat by a single stroke:
"My mother could have beaten me today," Dougherty said. "Michelle should be happy about it, but I don't think my mum would have been very happy about it."

Lano is Wie's 2nd caddy since she turned pro. She used several loopers as an amatuer for single events, just as all amatuers do, but it's nonsense to say Wie has gone through 10 caddies. Typical nonsense about Wie.

Make sure you let Jeff Shain from the Miami Herald know about that "typical nonsense".

I agree with the comments about michelle should leave the mens tour for a while and stay in the ladies but some of the other comments made, leave me with the conclusion that ppl are jealous of her being able to play better golf!
