Key to winning on PGA: play in non-Tiger events

Adam Scott has found a key to winning: "Tiger's phenomenal. He's dominating the game, six PGA Tour events in a row. I've got to start playing in the events he doesn't play in, that's for sure."

Hmm……That’s the key, is it? Well, I think that mentality is the key to the problem that professional golf has right now. People don’t want to compete if they are most likely going to be beaten. I’m sure Adam Scott was being cute or funny. Laugh, now get serious. Yes, Tiger is currently the best golfer in the world but that is only until someone proves he can beat him. The contender spot is open. Somebody with guts can take it. Unfortunately, that person is not Adam Scott.

Do you really think that Tiger Woods has accomplished all that he has just because his competitors don't have "guts". They've got plenty of guts. What you say might have some merit if the rest of the field had better golf swings than Tiger, or were better putters than Tiger or got up and down better than Tiger. Then you could say, "Oh, he's getting by on guts. The other players are technically better, but he's mentally stronger." No, he's technically better than the field in every facet of the game. Oh yeah, and he has more guts, lots more.

yeah it is pretty stupid to say tiger is the best player in the game only because of guts.....are you saying the vijay singh in 2004, only for one year had more guts than tiger? and now he doesnt anymore? vijays year in 2004 was because he played the best that year, tiger had plenty guts that year, but couldnt play well because he was changing his swing so he could do what he is doing now.... name another golfer who can hit three eagles on the same hole three days in a row..... tiger is the only one that does that kind of magic....because he has skill beyond that of all the other golfers.....he is the best

Let's face it, taking 2nd isn't so bad in the game of golf where 120-150 people enter on most weeks. If taking 2nd is the worst of your worries, your doing REALLY good!

Remember, before the world of Tiger, winning 6 tournaments made it clear that you had a solid professional golfling career! For example, on this years U.S. Ryder Cup team, only Toms (12), Mickelson (29), and Furyk (11) have more than 6 career victories.

Since it is difficult to compare between eras, the only fair historical measure we have of sportsmen is how far they distance themselves from their peers. As of now, Babe Ruth is the greatest, with maybe Gretzky second. Ruth is at risk of being dethroned by Tiger, but Tiger still has to take down Nicklaus. Sounds like a piece of cake when he is hot like this, but there will be several more slumps and several more streaks before he hangs it up. The possibility of injury is always out there too. There's no guarantee he reaches 19 major victories.
