Adam Scott wins Tour Championship, Furyk second

Shooting 11-under par, Adam Scott won his first PGA event of the year, in the last PGA tournament of the year. Steady Jim Furyk finished second at 8-under. (More from TGC)

Adam Scott is only 26 years old. Maybe he will finally live up to his potential, fill the huge vaccuum left by Phil Mickelson's implosion at the U.S. Open, and give some challenge to Tiger Woods. Hope springs eternal.

After his victory, Adam said: "Yeah, I think it is. I mean, yeah, that's what I'm one day hopefully going to get to is No. 1. It might take a while, but I think if I was to be No. 1 in the world at some point in my career, then I think that would be maybe the best achievement I could ever do in golf is get past Tiger Woods."

I for one am a big fan of Adam Scott and would like to see him take his game to the next level and challenge Tiger. He's won some big tournaments, so the next step for him is to challenge in the majors. I do think that we are seeing the shift in golf to the Aussies (Ogilvy, Scott, Appleby, etc.). For years, people have been talking about the emergence of Australian golfers, and I think that their takeover of golf is about to begin (except, of course, that Tiger is still the unquestioned force in golf).

Yeah, anonymous, speaking of our Aussie friends...

I had just returned to Australia after a few years overseas, so when he offered a friend and I the chance to demonstrate the trainers for him, we went for it. Not only did we get to meet many interesting people, including golfers, actors and most of the Rugby players in Sydney for the World Cup, I got to see first hand how it can improve your game over time.

The golf trainers are available in Sydney International Airport Departures, where over 250,000 people from around the world have taken one home to try out. Before every swing during the demonstration, we made sure grip, stance and setup were all correct. We worked on take away, position at the top, impact position and follow through. The end result - both of our golf games improved out of sight.

Here it is. Check it out...

The golf announcers keep saying that Adam has "no fire in his belly." Hopefully, Scottie's Tour Championship trophy will shut them up long enough for him to plot the overthrow of the Tiger.

I kinda wonder if Tiger sat out the Tour Championship on purpose, to give Adam a chance to win, and thereby create an enduring golf rivalry? I mean, how many fans will keep watching golf on TV if the result is always the same, another boring Tiger win?

The Great Scott vs. Tiger? That'll play.
