Tiger Woods year-end report

I flew to Hawaii to play in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf against Jim Furyk, Geoff Ogilvy and Mike Weir. Prior to playing in the pro-am, we did a Golf Channel version of the “Big Break,” where we competed in different skills challenges. I managed to break their window panes, which was pretty funny. We all had a good time. * * *

During my down time, I made a trip to San Diego to visit some of my friends in the Navy Seals. I’ve known them for a while and they’re a great group of guys. They help keep me sharp mentally and physically. I’ve always said if I wasn’t playing professional golf, I’d try and become a Navy Seal. I grew up in a military family – my father was a Green Beret – and that had a profound impact on me. * * *

I also spent a couple days with my friends at Nike last week. I did a press conference and hit a few balls down a runway at Hawthorne Municipal Airport near Los Angeles with the new SasQuatch SUMO drivers. I can’t believe how far the ball goes – of course, landing on concrete helps your distance – but the clubs are awesome and I think will be well-received by professionals and amateurs alike. * * *

I conclude my competitive season next week by hosting the Target World Challenge presented by Countrywide at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Ca. We’ve got another great field assembled and proceeds benefit the Tiger Woods Learning Center and the Start Something character development program. Both are near-and-dear to my heart. It gives me a great sense of pride to be able to give back to the community, especially kids. After that, I’m going skiing for a while with family and friends. My wife, Elin, still makes me look like a beginner. But hey, she grew up in Sweden and should be better. Slowly but surely, I’m getting the hang of it and love being outdoors.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Tiger
