The Golf Blog Masters preview: Aaron Baddeley

The Masters is only 2 weeks away. In preparation, The Golf Blog will be previewing some of the players to watch. We'll tell you now that Tiger Woods is, of course, the odds-on favorite to win this year (more on him later), but there are at least a handful of golfers who are playing really well this year who might make a run.

Today's feature is on Aaron Baddeley, the 26-year-old Aussie also known as "Badds." Well, thank goodness those cheesy "Badds" commercials have stopped because now we can focus on Aaron's golf game. Aaron revamped his swing, making it shorter and more compact. It appears to have paid off. He's currently 6th on the money list, with 1 victory (FBR) and 3 Top 10 finishes (including a tie for 6th this past week at the CA Championship).

Why I like Baddeley: he's always been a good, confident putter. This year, he's ranked 9th on the tour in putting (1.729 average). His greens in regulation is not that good, though, ranking 155th on the tour, so his putting is really saving him at times.

Aaron has 2 PGA victories and 3 international victories (including 2 Australian Opens). Unfortunately, Aaron has played only in 2 Masters (2000 and 2001), failing to make the cut both times. Inexperience at Augusta may make Baddeley a long shot.

By the way.

Aaron is an avid Ultimate (Frisbee) player.

Props.

I like Ernie Els' chances this year. A lot. As usual, the Masters should be a lot of fun to watch.

I can't stand him. I think it's rude and inconsiderate for a persont to push their religious beliefs on the people around them. If he was a muslim and tried to rally other tour members to join him as he prays to Mecca he'd prectically be booted off the tour, but somehow he gets a pass when he gets all preachy about jesus and whatnot. Have a little class, Aaron and remember... there's two things you don't talk about, one of them is politics and the other one is religion.

I like the following players next week in no particular order:

Els, Stenson, Casey, Woods, and my dark horse is Pernice.

Did anyone watch Tiger yesterday on the Golf Channel at Nona? Did I miss something. I think he was 7 back at one time and only reeled off 7 birdies in a row. And he was just having fun. Wait until it's serious.

Aaron will use his abbreviated putting method of "setup and fire" on the slick Augusta greens and wonder what planet he should head for after firing one 6 feet past.

hey, oldbattler I seem to remember us cutting you some slack when you posted your rantings regarding your love of Nancy Pelosi and how hot you thought she was.

hey old battler, I met Aaron today as he was leaving the National and he was nice enough to stop and sign an autograph for me. I think you may have been to quick in your judgement of him just because he has stated what he believes in. Everyone is entitled to express their own beliefs and I haven't heard of anyone on the tour saying that he is pushing his own beliefs on them. So what if the guy prays, is it really that big of a deal. I would rather have that type of an individual in the spotlight instead of someone who sets a bad example for the next generation like many other atheletes. By the way, having class doesn't mean not talking about religion and politics, it means being able to have a reasonable discussion without discounting the other persons views. Give the kid a break and find someone else to critisize.

There is no way Tom Pernice will win the masters.

However I watched Luke Donald putt today and he looks like he might be able to at least be in the mix on Sunday
