Rich Beem "insulted" by Tiger's "invite-only" tourney in DC
Rich Beem is "insulted," he's insulted by the new AT&T National tournament to be hosted by Tiger Woods in DC on the week of July 4th. The previous tournament in DC had an open field, and that's what Beem and other are complaining about. "It's the most totally wrong thing I've heard of in a long time that's sticking it to the players," Beem said.
"I was shocked when I heard that," Brad Faxon said. "We've got players looking for spots, and we're replacing a tournament that had a full field. With the amount of tournaments we have that are invitationals, it doesn't make sense to do more." There already are at least 7 "invite only" tourneys on the tour. So if you're not that good or can't get an invite, how are you supposed to make a living on tour?

This just shows how the PGA players don't get it. Right now the PGA is all about Tiger, and fans want to see Tiger battle Ernie, or Phil, or Sergio....not Rich Beem, Brad Faxon or Tom Pernice. These guys have made millions from Tiger ,and they still don't get or won't admit that he's their cash cow!
Myself, I watch every weekend, and I'd love to see Mark Wilson take his game to the next level, or Brandt Schnnedeker or Jeff Quiney rise into the top 10.....but the average fan could care less and the rest of the PGA needs to wake up!
that's a true point, calygolfing, but I'm not sure why the PGA can't have it both ways. Tiger in the event, but have it an open field.
I would assume that by making it an invitational, the PGA believes it will make the tournament more attractive to the best players. By making it an elite tournament, they will be effectively be making a tour stop that would typically be average into an elite professional golf destination.

Beemer should hope and pray he gets an invite to Tigers tourney because the next stop for him is the nationwide tour!HE can do that horrible dance of his on the greens down there. I mean what a lush.
