TPC No. 17 train wrecks Sean O'Hair with quadruple bogey
It was painful to watch: trailing by only 2 strokes and playing in the last group with Phil Mickelson, Sean O'Hair pulled out a 9-iron for the 135 yard island green No. 17. The NBC announcers immediately questioned the club choice, guessing it was way too much club. Sure enough, it was. His ball was 12 yards too long and completely air mailed the green. O'Hair thought he hit it well, but he misclubbed. What was his caddie (his father-in-law) thinking?
O'Hair then dunked his 3rd shot back into the water. Ooops. It was all over. Sean played so well all day. You hate to see this kind of collapse. It was brutal.

Facetiously: Since Seans caddie didn't think to use the 17th century SkyCaddie, the good ole cigar, Sean plunked it into the drink. If he only thought to smell the smoke of the cigar, he would have noticed that he couldn't as the wind was blowing away, and dropped Sean to a PW.
Seriously: Devistating, as his shot was right on. Ironic, as his Saturday shot was thought to have airmailed the back and was stiffed, today's he thought it was stiffed, and airmailed it. Give the kid some better feel.
Aaron Baddeley knocked it over the green with a PW a little before O'Hair got there... when I saw him ready to hit a 9 Iron, I thought he was f'n nuts. I was right.
what i found most disturbing about o'hair's collapse was the comment he made in his "exit interview". he said he had to go for the pin at 17 because he was not playing for second place. instead he really fucked up and dropped out of the top ten. that thinking lost him over $800k in earnings and the prestige of runner-up - which at this stage of his career would have been a hell of a lot better than the dismal outcome he produced after a great week of golf.
i think it is ok to be agressive and go for the "w" but do it with a little more smarts - a hard lesson but hopefully he learned something - his bank account sure took a beating in the final half hour of play
