Is Andres Romero the best player to almost win a major?

Forget about Sergio Garcia. The player everyone is talking about today is Andres Romero, the guy who had 10 birdies on Sunday at the British Open at Carnoustie and a chance to win it until a lame-brained 2-iron on 17 basically cost him the tournament.

Unlike Sergio, Andres (from Argentina) was really happy after the Open and won his next tournament in Europe. At the Bridgestone Invitational this week, Andres is paired with, you guessed it, Tiger Woods.

Scouts say that Andres has been bombing his drives over 340 yards. Ian Poulter, the third player in Tiger’s group, remarked, “He’ll hit it 30 [yards] past Tiger.”

Maybe if Tiger is hitting 2-iron, but I find it hard to believe Andres can outdrive Tiger by that much. He looks smaller than Tiger.
