Will Tiger Woods get to 17 Majors in 2008?
Tiger Woods made a statement this week: he's primed to have his best year yet. Winning with a commanding -19 and an 8-stroke lead over his nearest competitor, Tiger Woods has picked up right where he left off in 2007: winning another tournament.
The scary part is that the U.S. Open will be played later this year at Torrey Pines, a course that Tiger basically owns. The Open is at Royal Birkdale, where Tiger finished third in 1998 (buddy Mark O'Meara won that year). The PGA Championship is at Oakland Hills CC, which Tiger says he likes (and played last in the 2004 Ryder Cup. And, of course, Augusta is right in Tiger's wheel house.
So what should the odds be on Tiger pulling off the Grand Slam this year and getting to 17 Majors?

If he putts like he did this week and hits the ball the way he can off the tee, there is no doubt that he could clean up in the majors this year. The last time the Open was played at the same course as a tournament earlier in the year Tiger won by 15.
I really hope that he puts on a show for us at The Masters.

Tiger will continue to dominate until someone steps up and puts the time in "off the course" like he does. He has proven that golf is like any other sport. Training and preparing his body and mind is why he is dominating. Golfers better wake up or they'll be playing for second for a long time.
It's scary, because Tiger was driving the ball horribly and still killed the field.
I agree with both comments. Putting is more important to Tiger's domination than his driving. Remember the perfect ball striking day last year at the US Open-nada on the scorecard. If he putts like he did this weekend, it doesn't matter where he hits it off the tee. He can even throttle back and "sting" each tee shot and still win each major going away.
He will likely hit more fairways at the open with the course playing dry and fast he won't need to hit as many drivers even with the course playing longer. With his unbelivable iron play and putting as well as he is I wouldn't be surprised to see a repeat of the dominance at Pebble.
The Grand Slam is definitely within Tiger's reach, and therefore the 17 Majors. There hasn't been anyone on tour that can really copmare to Tiger's dominance over this 10-year span. I don't know how many he'll get at the end of it all, but I think we're looking at the greatest golfer in history.
Duh.
