Annika Sorenstam questions Michelle Wie's attempt to play on PGA tour this week
AP is reporting the skepticism among LPGA players about Michelle Wie's attempt to play the PGA tour this week at the Tahoe Open.
Annika Sorenstam stated, ""I really don't know why Michelle continues to do this. We have a major this week and, if you can't qualify for a major, I don't see any reason why you should play with the men."
Helen Alfredsson stated, ""I feel kind of sad for her. I think she's a very good person. I feel sad for the guidance that she seems to not have in the right direction."
Paula Creamer stated, ""I don't know why you'd want to pass up playing in a major, especially the British Open here at Sunningdale. But she goes a different path and that's not the path way that I've taken."

I agree with Annika and other that it seems Michelle is getting advised poorly. I do wonder why she didn't try to qualify for the British Open. Perhaps school conflicted with the qualifying, but I don't think she was in school this spring. With that said, I think Michelle and her camp feels like she needed another competitive opportunity to get ready for the Canadian Open. A lot will be riding on that event for Michelle. It's the difference between going to Q School or Futures Tour next year or getting her card. If that's the case and they're viewing the PGA event as a tune-up for the Canadian event, I don't have a problem with her playing. It's the LPGA's fault, IMO, for only allowing seven sponsor exemptions. Unfortunately, the LPGA really needs Michelle. They should have made her exempt back in 2006, and last year she would have received a medical exemption that would have extended it into this year. With all that said, I doubt she would have done the PGA thing this week if the DQ wouldn't have happened. Perhaps the Wie camp should look into hiring a professional caddy. I'm available…
She is not thinking, but being told what to do. Look at her each event is becoming more and more work, more and more strain.
I still see women playing on the PGA tour as a publicity stunt. I really don't have a problem with it as long as they have to qualify for it just like the men do. If however they are taking a sponsor's exemption or taking a spot away from someone that may have qualified....it's just wrong!!
I think that Michelle Wie is a great player with something to prove. She might even be the next Annika.
