Michelle Wie defends her decision to play PGA event, so does David Duval
David Duval supports Michelle Wie's decision to play in Tahoe this week: "The novelty of it seemingly is wearing off a little bit, but you know, more power to her if she wants to try it. I don't know if the PGA Tour is exactly the place to gain confidence. You can get your head beat in pretty easy out here."
Michelle Wie also stated, "People are going to write hateful stuff about me and that's fine with me. ... Good rounds and low scores can solve everything."
Meanwhile, her coach David Leadbetter said that more bad than good can come from Michelle's playing a PGA event.

Exactly ... and that's the problem - She hasn't exactly shown us any "low" scores yet on the PGA tour has she.
She needs to start turning down sponsors exemptions and work her way on the tour by playing well.
Michelle Wie has not won a tournament this year that I ca recall. I believe that she needs to get a manager. The parents need to step down as her managers. They are to close to her to be able to make the best decisions for her.
I have been one of, if not the most, critical person on this site regarding the "Team Wie" approach and if you were to look back on my previous posts, she somehow managed to do substantially worse than even I predicted.
That being said, I almost do not have a problem with her playing this event. From the sponsors angle. It is a sponsors exemption and it is the sponsors decision and if they want to let Ronald McDonald play, hey, they paid the cash, they can choose who they want.
From Team Wie's angle, I am guessing she is just looking for something resembling competative rounds. Now I use the word rounds, plural, because 2 rounds is almost certainly all she will get but bottom line is she needs to play and this is the easiest, cheapest option for her.
Do I think she should have tried to play the Woman's British, sure but that would have taken some guts and that would have taken some faith in her game and ability and those are some things she has shown she just does not have right now.
As fas as the she has not won a tournament this year... if by "this year" you mean the last 5 years then you are correct. The last even Michelle Wie won was the 2003 Womans Pub Links back when she was 13. That was her last win and that was the biggest win in her life.
Back when the big Michelle Wie posts were raging on this site, if I had predicted that as of today she would not have a win to her name on the LPGA tour, I would have been mocked and ridiculed beyond belief. I myself would not have believed it. What I was saying back then was I did not believe the path they were taking was in her best long term interest and they were more interested in the short term cash. It appears I may have been on to something.
I also agree that she needs new management. What she really needs is some maturity and a spine so she can tell her parents enough already and do what is needed to get her game back on the path that even I think she is capable of.
And with that I will put my Michelle Wie soap box away... for today. I am sure there will be another reason to bring it out soon.
Michelle Wie is a great player and there is no doupt in my mind that she could pull something like this off.
