Should Tiger Woods quit the PGA + start his own tour?

Eric Adelson of ESPN asks a very provocative question: maybe it would be in Tiger Woods's interest to quit the PGA entirely and just his own world tour?

Tim Finchem must be getting even more nervous as we speak. Basically, if Tiger quits the PGA, he doesn't have to play 15 PGA events every year, but could rest his knee for the majors. Plus, Tiger could build a huge business empire on top of the one he already owns.

It sounds like a crazy idea, but if Tiger did it, I think it would work financially. Tiger could command the center of all media attention wherever he plays. As long as he plays in the majors, I don't think Tiger cares about any regular PGA tournament (except his own).

I've been writing about this for a couple of years on golfblogger.com. I've predicted that Tiger will do exactly that as soon as he owns Sam Snead's all time wins record.

All Tiger cares about right now is the records and the majors. If he wants to "warm up", he'll be able to play in any tournament he wants on a sponsors exemption.

The only thing that might stop him is if there's a clause in his Nike contract committing him to a certain number of events for the exposure.

Why would he want to do that?

I would think that would be kind of rediculous...Maybe the common sense route would be to give the all time leader in majors, and exemption from all tournaments..
