TV ratings without Tiger Woods: terrible!!!!!

PGA Commissioner Tim Finchem might as well shut down the entire 2008 season. The TV ratings for golf tournaments, post-Tiger, are in, and they are absolutely abysmal. The PGA Championship had a 3.0 rating, down 55% from last year. Also, attendance at the tournaments are significantly down since Tiger retired for the season. You could see that this past weekend when Ben Curtis, who had a share for the lead, had only what looked like 10 people following his group. That's embarrassing for a Sunday at a major.

So it appears that the PGA without Tiger Woods is more like the LPGA, where it's tough to find any viewers. If the FedEx championship doesn't do well, Tim Finchem should resign for creating such an expensive, bloated gimmick.

Fedex Cup is just a continuation of golf's ills. On the other hand, who can blame Finchem for riding the Tiger bandwagon? Highs and lows of a one trick pony. Looks what's happened to heavyweight boxing post-Ali.

Sure a Tiger-less championship contributed to a portion of the low ratings, but something also needs to be said about the timing of the event. The Olympics kicked off over the weekend, NFL Preseason football started, and all that rain left many not knowing if they were watching the 3 or 4th round when they tuned in on Sunday.

I'm not convinced that the low ratings were all because of lack of Tiger. Granted he definitely had an impact, but I don't think that the season is over because of his absence.

I could be wrong, but with Padraig playing so well and Sergio trying to make a comeback, it's been enjoyable to watch.

Isn't it Fedx that's spending all the money?

All those who put all their eggs in the Tiger basked (as in Tiger is God Channel) are paying the price.

David,
Of course it's been interesting for you to watch. You're a "golf nut".
We watch Thursday and Friday telecasts on the Golf Channel.
The numbers have not lied for years. Without Tiger, nobody watches.
