Bad economy = sucks for professional golf
The bad economy produced another casualty: Ginn has stopped its sponsorship of all golf tournaments (LPGA + Champions) and Cristie Kerr, its one sponsored player. More here
Unfortunately, I don’t think Ginn will be the last to exit golf. Golf is perceived as a luxury, and, in this economy, it’s the first thing that’s on the list of cutting costs. Buick axed Tiger Woods. So it can happen to anyone.
If I were PGA Commissioner Tim Finchem, I would immediately scrap the $10 million escrow payouts for the poorly hatched FedEx Cup playoff series.
