The Golf Blog: Thank God for Jack Nicklaus. Thank God for Jack Nicklaus. A couple days, we at The Golf Blog went out on a limb and criticized Corey Pavin’s remark that Tiger Woods needed to make the Ryder Cup team and wouldn’t be an automatic captain’s pick. You can read our article, Is Corey Pavin serious that Tiger Woods isn’t an automatic captain’s pick for the Ryder Cup? (click here).

Well, now, Jack Nicklaus has agreed with The Golf Blog’s position, criticizing Pavin. Here’s what Jack said:

“He’d (Pavin) need a brain scan if he left Tiger out of the team. Of course he should pick Tiger. The truth is that Tiger is going through some personal problems, which I’ve nothing to say about, and he’s also got some problems with his game, which he’s going to have to resolve himself. But Tiger will be in the team, I have no doubt.”

Leave it to 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus to set the record straight. Don’t get us wrong, we have a lot of respect for Corey Pavin, who won 1 major and was a pivotal player in past Ryder Cups. But to suggest that Tiger Woods wouldn’t be one of his 4 picks if Tiger didn’t earn a spot on points is absolutely insane. Tiger Woods, with 14 majors and 71 victories, deserves a spot on any US team. Although Tiger’s Ryder Cup record is not great, he still is the best player in golf. And he brings in media attention and TV audiences for every event.
