The Golf Blog says: In June 2007, Butch Harmon boldly predicted Phil Mickelson would catch Tiger Woods and become the new No. 1 player in golf. Here’s what Butch said: “Tiger’s got a big lead as No. 1 in the world, so it’ll take a couple of years, but I think he can and I think he will actually (catch Woods). He’s going to have to really work hard and change a lot more things, but he’s willing to do that and wants to do it. He has the desire to try and rival Tiger.”

Back then, Butch’s prediction seemed like fantasy. Today, they just might be reality. Tiger Woods shot the worst two rounds of his life at Firestone Country Club, a course where he has won 7 times. Tiger is now 6-over for the tourney and in 74th place out of 81 golfers.

Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson (-6) is one shot off the lead and 12 strokes better than Tiger. Phil will be the new No. 1 player officially, as long as he places in the Top 4 and Tiger lower than 37th. Of course, if Phil wins, it’s a done deal.
