The Golf Blog: Who do you want to win the Masters?
The Golf Blog says: The Masters never fails to disappoint in bringing out a fantastic leader board. This year is no exception. Indeed, it may be even better. Here’s our list of sentimental favorites who it would be great to see win.
1. Fred Couples. The guy is 52 and last won his only major (the Masters) 20 years ago. If Freddie won, he would be the oldest major winner by 4 years! We hope Freddie’s not teasing us this time.
2. Lee Westwood. Westy is the best player not to win a major. He’s come really close in the past 2 years; it would be great to see him finally get over the hump.
3. Sergio Garcia. Wow, El Nino is now 32 years old and still hasn’t won a major, something he almost did at the PGA in 1999 at Medina. Sergio’s been scarred by a balky putter, a bad breakup with Greg Norman’s daughter (Morgan), and a frosty relationship with the press. Perhaps winning a major would turn everything around for Sergio.
4. Jason Dufner. Jason is a dark horse who almost won the PGA last year. So he’s less of a dark horse now. Jason still represents the underdog and a victory here would put him on the golf map.
5. Tiger Woods. Tiger hasn’t won a major in over 3 years. He’s revamped his swing under Sean Foley and won a couple weeks ago, but yesterday his swing abandoned him. Can Tiger recapture his magic?
6. Phil Mickelson. Can Lefty tie Tiger’s number of Masters victories at 4?
7. Rory McIlroy. Hard to put Rory on this list. He’s already won 1 major and people expect him to win this major.
8. Bubba Watson. The guy can bomb it and hit shots that bend and curve like no other.
9. Paul Lawrie. The Scot won the British in 1999 (thanks to Jean Van De Velde) and then eventually fell off the golf radar. Lawrie hadn’t won in 9 years until he finally won last year.
10. Matt Kuchar. Kooch is a consistent ball striker who you would expect to have won a major by now.
