Look at the leaderboard at the Bob Hope Classic, and you can conclude one thing: the tourney must bring out the best in people. First, there’s Robert Allenby sitting at the top, with an amazing 9-under 63. Mark Calcavecchia and Craig Canada are 2 back, tied for second.
But you’ll also find some notables who have struggled in the past, but who have suddenly asserted themselves on the leaderboard. Jason Gore, who’s now working with the post-Tiger Butch Harmon, is at -6. So is Matt Kuchar of all people! Yes, I did say Matt Kuchar, the same guy who missed 6 of 8 cuts on the PGA tour last year.
Hey, wait a second, there’s even David Duval at -5. The last time DD played this well at the Hope he shot a 59!
