scotty cameron

Scotty Cameron designs putters. A good number of the top pros use his putters, including Tiger, Phil, and Ernie. Scotty Cameron has just come out with two mallet putters -- no doubt influenced by the popularity of bigger putter heads.

I've only putted Scotty Cameron putters at the pro shop. Frankly, the price tag is too steep for my blood. If you use one of his putters, can you tell me what's so great about them? Based on my theory for drivers, there must be something special about the feel of Scotty Cameron putters. Or is just the name?

I don't get the Cameron popularity either. I've used them plenty at the shops, but I'd never spend that kind of cash on a putter just because of the name on the bottom, and I've never used one that makes me think of dumping my $60 ping even if price was no option.

The real bottom line should be how well it feels and performs, after all, it is the single most used club in the bag.

Well, Camerons are known for their precision and build quality. They are milled from a single block of metal vs. the casting method employed by the majority of putter manufacturers. They also have milled faces for the flattest surface. They may cost a lot, but they actually retain their value tremendously. Check out eBay.

What I don't understand are people paying big coin for the Cameron headcovers:

Thanks for the info, Anonymous. Have you played with a Cameron putter? Do you recognize a better feel? Or does it work only for top level pro players?

Actually, I do have a Cameron Mil-Spec (Newport 2 style) that replaced my trusty Ping Anser 2. The biggest difference is the weight. The Cameron is much heavier and it seems to produce a more consistent stroke due to the inertia. I do think that the feel is more solid, but I believe that is due to the weight.

Is it worth it? Depends. Some people prefer the lighter weight of the Ping. Putters, like all clubs, are an individual matter. People always recommend the Odyssey 2-Ball putter to me, but I can't get used to the look. When it comes to drivers, for some reason I don't like Callaway, Titleist, and Cleveland drivers even though tons of people rave about them. I love Ping and Taylormade drivers, but I know they're not for everyone. The morale of the story: ultimately no one else knows what clubs are right for you but yourself.

I had great success with my Scotty but, like all clubs, after a while i lost the touch. I bought an Oddyssey two ball and putted great for about a year. then I struggled for a while. After other options, I pulled the Scotty from the closet and my touch is back.
It's probably more mental than anything, but anyone who has hit a Scotty on an actual green knows what I mean by the feel. The Oddyssey felt the same good or bad stroke. If you hit a good putt with a scotty there is a different feel and sound even. I get that good stroke more often with the Scotty.

I have been using a Scotty Cameron for 8 years now. Yes, the price is high, but I cant see switching to a different brand anytime soon.

It's all about the feel and the construction that goes into the creation of each putter. I had my first SC for 5 years until I felt it was time for a new one.

I also don't understand why in the world do people fork out hundreds of dollars for headcovers. I guess they are collectibles. The next Beanie Baby??? Maybe!

Anyway, If you can open the wallet, you will always get quality and feel with Scotty Cameron.

i have 2 scottys and i love them to death, i started out with a 2-ball and it was a nice putter but to me it was not even comparable to the camerons. I have to agree with the person that said the weighting is good, it really does add to more consistency and better feel. Another thing I love about my putters is the look, scotty cameron putters have a great traditional look that is pleasing to the eye at address. I really recommend a scotty to anyone, try one out!

Hello Golf Blog,

I am Justin Stacks, an employee of Golf Headquarters in Terre Haute and I may have some knowlege that is of intrest to you. The owner of the shop has an amazing Scotty collection and he is ready to sell a few. He has a full Circa collection, Tiger's 97 masters 181(not sure on the #), , several first 500s including a My Girl, some inspired by's including a Sergio, Duval, Faxton and at least one more. another my girl mallet, and my favorite a newport"pro specs" hand stamped my Scotty with 1 of 6 then it was signed by Scotty and Larry Bird. He has some more I can't remeber off hand. If you know any collectors that may be interested, have them call (812)-232-4653, and ask for Bucky (owner). If he paid a little better, I'd grab some my self. Personally I want them to go to collectors that are as pasionate about them as i am, but he does't seem to care who they go to.

Thanks.

I was wondering why someone spends $$$ on a driver they use 12-14 times, $$$ on irons they use 18-24 times, yet the putter is being used up to 30+ times a round. I think the $$$ certainly is justified!!

The Scotty Cameron Futura! Scotties finally got it figured out. For only 300 bucks this putter screwed up my game on the greens. The putter is too light. The head is too shiny (on sunny days). And, my stroke was lost in the first five minutes. A must buy for all serious golfers!!!!
