friday massacre: tiger, vijay, phil ousted
Carnage, no better word to describe it. I didn't see any of it, but Tiger, Vijay, and Phil were all ousted in the second day of match play (rounds 2 and 3). Phil lost to David Toms, who has made it to the final before. Vijay's never made it past the second round, so maybe his loss is not surprising either. But Tiger losing to Nick O'Hern? To be honest, I've never heard of the guy. Have you?
UPDATE: If someone saw the Tiger match, please write in. I consider this defeat one of the biggest's in Tiger's match play career. I remember his amateur days when he would always come up with something dramatic to stave off defeat. Even in the Ryder Cup, Tiger has a decent singles record. To lose to Nick O'Hern...that's a shock to the system.

Is anyone surprised Tiger didn't win? His "poor" play (granted, poor play for Tiger assures him of a spot in the top 5 for the rest of his life) can lead to only one conclusion: he's flamed-out. He'll never get back to his 2000 form especially if he keeps trying too hard to improve. Given his level of play at his peak, where could he improve to? Birdie on EVERY hole? No, Tiger's stuck in a labyrinth of his own making and with all the leeches getting a free meal off him (this guy's life is scheduled to the minute!), he's too harried to leave a string behind him to find is way out. Plus, all his opponents stepped up their games to catch him, so I imagine Tiger will win a few tournaments a year, threaten at the Majors, but his best days are behind him. It's even odds that he or anyone in the Top 5 will win when in the same event.
