Watson wins, but is the Champions Tour still relevant?

Let's give the guy his due: Tom Watson fired an 8-under 64 to win by 1 stroke over Jay Haas, who had a 6 shot lead at the start of the final round. Watson not only surpassed Haas, he overtook Dana Quigley to win the $1 million bonus for the Schwab Cup (year long ranking, with triple points for this tourney).

But is the Champions Tour still relevant today? How many of you watched the tourney, or even knew of its existence?

UPDATE: So far, the answer is a resounding yes. Thanks for writing in!

I often check the champions tour results before i check the pga tour results...It may be an age thing. Ten-fifteen years ago when I was in my teens, I used to think the seniors tour (as it then was) pretty boring. But now that I know more of the players, and have followed their careers since 1991+, I'm really interested in how they perform. I'm also really looking forward to when the likes of Norman, Langer, Faldo and Aziner are all battling it out on the champions tour...

As a matter of fact, I did know that the tournament was around and yes I did watch it. Thank-you

Time to show some respect for the professional golfers who made the big purses of today possible. I prefer to watch the Champions tour because, like the senior players I am well past 50. The tour players of today would be pretty lame if they had to use the equipment that the seniors won with in the past.

I actually watched the tournament in person since it is nearby. The weather on Sunday was truly something to write home about. The amazing thing to me is I heard that this was the largest winner's check that Tom Watson has ever gotten. Can that be true? If that is the case, those Seniors should be giving foot massages to any fan that wants one as they walk up the fairways. They are a blessed group and need to realize how lucky they are. Great tournament though. As was the Nationwide Tour's finish at the RTJ Senator course in Alabama (where I grew up). Great links style course...easiest of the the three at that complex, but a design that makes you remember a good percentage of the holes. The players that finished 1st and 2nd pushed themselves just over the bubble to get their cards...talk about a winner's check.

Champions tour? Eh.

OK, so I'm not yet 50, so that may have something to do with that. But the best players are on the PGA tour.

I watch anything golf related, so I did catch some of the event on Saturday (Sunday's are for the NFL in my house). I think the Champions Tour is still relevant, but why did they change the name from the Seniors Tour? A lot of the guys never won anything worthy enough to be called a Champion. Are they champions just because they lived to 50?
