TPC No. 17: The Most Intimidating Hole in Golf

Pete Dye, along with his wife, had sheer genius when they designed No. 17 at Sawgrass. This short 138 yard hole defines the entire golf course and gets in the heads of every golfer at the TPC. For more on how Dye and his wife came up with the hole (by accident), read here. Bob Tway set the record last year with a 12. Hopefully, someone will beat it this year!

It is a great hole for spectators but I would never want to be playing in a tournament with that hole out there close to the end of each round.

I honestly don't know what the big deal is about that hole. LPGA Q school, now that's pressure. Unlike some people, I've earned my way and nobody has ever given me anything.

Just for kicks I went out and played the TPC yesterday. On 17 I put my 3 wood in there about 20 feet away. Damn, I'm good!
