Arnold Palmer, The King, ends golf career
No more. It's all over. After dunking two balls into the water on the 4th hole at a Champions tour event, 77 year old Arnold Palmer decided it was finally over. He told his playing partners Lee Trevino and John Mahaffey to stop keeping his score. Palmer would play out the rest of the round, but not for any score. Afterwards, Palmer couldn't help but shed a tear, ending his storied career. What a ride, King. (More from TGC)

Hurting, physically and emotionally, he played out the round so as to not disappoint the fans. CLASSY. CLASSY. CLASSY!!!
I'm not trying to wind up the Arnie fans, but I have found him to be a little annoying over the last years. He just comes across as too self important for my taste. I also believe that great atheletes should quit at the top, or at least before their skills degrade markedly. Arnie was a poster boy for not following that philosophy.
I have been reading The Wicked Game book by Howard Sounes. There is some great information about Arnold Palmer.
Michelle Wie is the new Arnold Palmer.
I thought Wicked Game was a cool, haunting Chris Isaak song?
I have met and caddied for Palmer on two occassions at his club in Orlando; (well actually I just drove his cart.). However, the first time I met him he was absolutely the nicest guy in the WORLD. And the most suprising thing was that he looked about 10 years younger in person than he did on TV(which was pretty unbelievable in and of itself). It was at the time the coolest experience of my life. Let's face it, Arnold helped make golf a household word in the USA, and a lot of people have made a very good living at since then, as well. 20 years ago a very good player on the PGA TOUR could make a million dollars in about 18 months, which was then a record, now they can do it in less than a week, is this a great country or what? A million isn't what it used to be but, it is still a hell of a lot of money. That is my two cents. Long live the king.
