Michelle Wie gets advice from Sergio Garcia + Phil Mickelson

The Golf Blog's own Douglas asked here whether Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods should mentor Michelle Wie. Well, neither has happened. But AP's Doug Ferguson reports recently met with two world class golfers who have had their own share of struggles:

"At the European Masters, Wie had lunch with Sergio Garcia. He reminded her that he finished last as a 19-year-old in his first major as a professional, the '99 British Open at Carnoustie, then finished one shot behind Tiger Woods in his next major at Medinah. Two weeks ago, she met with Phil Mickelson, whom the media constantly nagged over his failure to win a major. That changed when Mickelson won the '04 Masters..."

OK, I'm a big Sergio fan, but, outside of the Ryder Cup, his putting is so balky, that Team Wie should keep Michelle from hanging out too much with Sergio (for fear of bad putting karma becoming contagious). As far as Michelle meeting Mickelson, I really wonder what they talked about.

Phil no doubt gave her some excellent advice on where to eat at the various Tour stops.

That would be interesting for the talented three.....the question for the table.....How do we close the deal on Sunday afternoons?

Michelle Wie is vastly overrated and will never amount to anything more than a marketer's dream. She is all hype and very little substance....at least as far as playing against men.

Stick to playing the LPGA Tour Michelle. You will NEVER succeed against the men. End of story.

Can we please stop talking about this girl until she actually does something that merits the attention she receives?

What's so bad about being a marketer's dream...and having lunch with Sergio and Phil? Nothing I can think of.

The fact that Michelle is being talked about would indicate that, in fact, she does merit attention. Perhaps it's not the kind of attention you feel a golfer should be getting, but, respectfully, that's not her problem, is it?

Paris Hilton is talked about. Does she "merit attention" too?

Abso-frikn'-loutly! Again it's a certian type of attention. One you (and many others) may feel is base and low-brow. However, she ...and Michelle... have worked very hard at creating intriguing public images, and masses of people are facinated by them. it's for that work that they are receiving this attention ...that you deem unmerited.

Michelle is ultra talented en plus.

Sergio Garcia is no super star.
Not even a star. He should carry a spitton in his bag so he can spit all he wants.

It's one thing to lose your cool and throw or break your clubs...it's quite another to behave like Sergio
Garcia spitting into a golf hole in a major tournament with thousands of fans looking...Very uncouth, unprofessional, rude, ugly , unsanitary, worse ungentlemanly
and this is the guy who is in a beer commercial...ugh.!
