By now, most of the professional golfers who blog appear to have shut down their operations for the year. But not Ernie Els. Just as dedicated as ever, Ernie continues to blog every week. Ernie appears to be pretty tech savvy, he even posted this question on Yahoo! Answers: “What’s the best way to encourage children to take up sport?” (More here)

To kill some time last weekend, Ernie managed to go to the Tampa Bay-Philadelphia game: “I hear the Eagles were big favourites to win this game, but the home team upset the odds with Matt Bryant kicking a decisive 62-yard field goal just as time was running out. It was pretty exciting stuff. And I’m told (by those with a lot more knowledge of the sport than me!) that it was the third-longest field goal in NFL history.”

This week at the Chrysler Championship, Ernie Els is fighting to keep his Top 30 status in order to play in the final Tour Championship. On Thursday, Ernie shot a 69, -2, to be tied for 12th place at the Chrysler. I’ve got to hand it to Ernie for persevering after his knee injury last year. No victories yet, but the guy is really working hard. Any of you who ever experienced a major injury knows that it’s not easy to recover. I, myself, had to give up golf for one season because of a rotator cuff injury. It’s really hard to come back and play the same way you played before.

Ernie hired a new caddie: “you’ll recall things went pretty well with Malcolm Mason in the American Express Championship at The Grove a couple of weeks ago, so I’ve got him on the bag again here in Tampa.” Ernie also has been working harder on his fitness, his cardio and keeping his weight in check. Maybe Lefty should be reading this.
