The Chrysler Championship was the last open-field tournament on the PGA tour this year. And it proved to be an exciting one. First things first, KJ Choi won the tourney, pulling away after eagling the first hole and opening up a 3-shot lead. It’s KJ’s fourth PGA victory. According to the AP, KJ is sporting a new “square” driver: “He started using a new driver last week that not only is square, but sounds like someone swatting an empty cola can upon contact. Els played with Choi on Saturday and compared the sound to a tuna can attached to a shaft.” The square driver looks like this.
Ernie Els, who was only one back at the start of the day, struggled with a 1-over 72. On the last hole, Ernie appeared to be heading for disaster: fall outside the Top 30 and out of the Tour Championship next week. But Ernie pulled off a life-saving up-and-down to clinch his Top 30 spot.
Then there’s Paul Goydos, who started the week at No. 160 on the money list and was set to go back to Q-School. But with a tied for second finish this week, Goydos won enough money (the most in his life) to pull up to No. 97, securing his tour card for next season.
