So what will Phil do next? Well, since going into hiding after the Debacle at Winged Foot, Phil Mickelson has done some real soul searching about his game and weaknesses. First things first, he’s worked on both his swing and equipment to try to eliminate the big banana slice that cost him the U.S. Open. He’s even worked with Callaway to design him a driver better designed to stop the big banana from creeping back into his swing.

That’s not all. Phil says he actually has hit the gym, doing both weight lifting and cardio. He claims he has put on “15 pounds of muscle.” (Let’s hope he’s firmed up the pectoral muscles, too.) If that’s not enough, he also has started martial arts. His favorite move may become crouching tiger, hidden dragon. Lefty is back in action this week at the Bob Hope Classic. No matter what you think about Lefty, he does bring an air of excitement that only Tiger and Daly can surpass. More from AP’s Doug Ferguson
