Phil Mickelson is a magician around the green. On the tee, it’s a different story. Phil’s driving is a mess. It is what cost him the 2006 U.S. Open at Winged Foot.

Enter Butch Harmon in 2007 to fix Phil’s swing flaw off the tee. But the results don’t seem there yet. Yesterday, CBS analyst Peter Kostis broke it down on video. It didn’t look pretty. Phil’s left knee goes out away from his body, instead of towards his right knee, causing a gap between his legs and Phil to hang back on his left side.

Maybe Butch is working on this problem, but maybe he’s not doing a good enough job? Tiger Woods had problems off the tee, but that was one of the reasons Tiger left Butch for Hank Haney. Haney seems to have improved Tiger’s erraticness off the tee. Butch is the same guy who boldly predicted in 2007 that Phil would overtake Tiger at No. 1. Doesn’t seem to be working out yet.

So, dear Readers, after 2 years does Butch Harmon share some of the blame for not fixing Phil Mickelson’s noticeable swing flaw off the tee?
